Tiaro is inland but part of the Frazer coast council area, is not much more than a short stop over to stretch the legs and get a drink but I love the way lots of these small Aussie country towns have put some effort into making any length of a stop here way more enjoyable than the old days and is well worth a walk around.. The welcome sign at the car park was cool but had been badly sun effected and started to crack and peal, luckily they had installed another one in some shade not too far away.

When we were in Maryborough I asked one of the local working in a park where the best place to get coffee was. After a long pause she said ”Tairo” I though Tairo was some sort of Coffee shop in Maryborough, but after a bit of a google I worked out it was a town which would be travelling through on the way home the following day.

The recommendation was enough to pencil in this place as a possible rest shop on our 4 hour journey home.

It was great that they turned the old railway station into a tourist information centre and local craft shop.

A google earth screen shot of the mighty Mary river not really the most attractive spot as a tourist destination, I am glad we did not bother detouring to check it out but it is interesting that these country towns were all build along the river which acted as its trading route.
