You have to be adaptable as a parkrun tourist. Sometimes weather events can turn the best of plans in to a total mess. A bit of rain is not a problem, but when we woke to lightning and thunder, lots of the nearby parkrun started cancelling. One after another our facebook feed was showing event leaders could not send volunteers out into a storm in the early morning darkness to do course setup and checks. Luckily, we always have a bit of a time buffer and thanks to modern technology. We could see that the storm was a lot less or passed through much early in certain areas. Then just before we were going to give up and go back to bed a couple of events said they were good to go. With the help of google maps were able to arrive with a few minutes to spare at one of them. I was worried on the way there that they might change their mind but like most weather reports nowadays by the time we were ready to run, the storm was a s good as gone.Stebonheath is only a small parkrun event in a newish housing estate half an hour west of Adelaide central business district. All the other cancelations doubled their numbers. We still made it back to our accommodation in time for buffet breakfast and check out. The course is around the lake and then an out and back, both bits done twice to make up the five-kilometre course.
