I have been to South bank parkrun four times so far. It is the biggest parkrun in Queensland and one of the best because it is just across the river from the main business district. South bank is the old World Expo 1988 site, remade into a great park land area. My first time there was way back in 2013. I was only new to parkrun and this was only my second different event. South Bank parkrun had reached out to all the other Brisbane parkruns and wanted to try and break the Australia parkrun attendance record. From memory the record was in the high 900s at the time. They wanted to get over 1000 but we fell short at 941. It was so busy I had trouble finding my friends. The paths struggled to handle the numbers and passing was difficult. I swore I would never do a big event again.It was still fun though!Since then we try and pick a less crowded day to visit South Bank which is no that easy as any celebrations, anniversaries or other big sporting events can swell the numbers to an uncomfortable level. The main run brief on one of our more recent visits, lots of people were already lined up at the start line along the river path.600 is an average turnout nowadays.photo credits to the parkrun volunteer photographers.They have had a few different courses over the years. My favorite was the first one that ran up both side of the river utilising two of the bridges. The one pictured did a few loops in the city gardens. I have heard it has changed again.There are lots of good cafe nearby for a coffee afterwards.
