We took my Mum and my sister to stay the weekend at the Sofitel hotel in Broad Beach on the Gold Coast. It was a bit emotional for them because they have stayed at this place a few times when Dad was alive. Mum is getting on a bit now too, so I had to pick some where she felt comfortable. This place sits right on top of a busy shopping centre so everything was very handy for a short stay. I tried to book the same room they used to get but even talking to a real person at reception I could not get it. Funny thing was a couple of days before we were due to go down I get an upgrade email. I ring reception again and now I can get a similar room to the one they used to have. It was not cheap but it sort of made there day when I helped them into there room with all the extra space after I had been warning them for weeks I could only get a rear facing, small, twin room. The Sofitel feels a bit dated compared to a lot of the newer more fancy and totally beach front sky scrappers now situated up and down lots of the famous Queensland Gold Coast but it is still a nice weekend away right in the middle of a happening place. The all you can eat buffet breakfast are so good.We splashed out and had dinner at there fancy restaurant too
