We were on a mission, well probably more like an adventure. Things got quiet at work a few months ago so we packed the car and headed south. There was a lot we wanted to see and do on this impromptu trip. Usually we start off early but on this day we had stuff to finalise and take care of at home before we could set off. So after a late start we hit the road with nothing booked for that night, we thought we would just drive as far as we comfortably could. In my younger years I had driven a lot further but this time as soon as it started to get dark we knew we needed to find some where soon. @consciouscat started googling and on booking.com said "this Francis Drake place looks ok, is on this highway, just ahead and is within our budget". A few minutes later we drove in and picked up our room key for the night. We had made it all the way from Brisbane to Heatherbrae about 760 kilometres.

They next morning We peaked out the window and though there appeared to be a lot of space to this motel and it might be worth a look around.

It is funny how last minute ideas some how turn out really good.

Even though this place was a bit old and dated it was definitely different and interesting from the usual highway hotel or motel.

They had add a few modern arty things to as well.

For a big area it was pretty well kept, many even grand in its heyday.

Inside the restaurant and reception was pretty cool too.

I do not think there is any connection between this area and Mr Drake, the famous explorer but I suppose they just wanted some theme for there establishment and here it is.
