Ros Gregor Trail was the first parkrun I have done named after a person. A local councilor who was instrumental in setting up the walking nature trail. An interesting naming choice by parkrun headquarters, maybe the council were heavily involved in getting it set up as well. I think Nanango parkrun would have been much better choice, at least everyone would know what and where the event is we are talking about. Especially because it is a long way from anywhere, 200km northwest of Brisbane at the intersection of the D’Aguilar and the Burnett Highways. We stayed overnight in a local caravan park cabin. It is possible to free camp right next to the parkrun start line and use the same toilet block, but we prefer a few more creature comforts. The name Nanango has evolved from the Wakka Wakka Aboriginal word ”nunangi” meaning meeting place or water hole and they claim to be the 4th oldest town in Queensland. It all started with some farming and then a bit of a gold rush. Before that the Wakka Wakka people used to pass through on their way to nearby Bunna Mountains. I really enjoy the small country parkruns not have to worry about all the big crowds in the city.

I think we have now done all the parkruns in the South Burnett Regional Council area.

We got to meet Tim who finished with @consciouscat, He set up a backyard ultra at his property nearby ”Dead Cow Gully” and Phil Gore set the world record there for number of 6.72km laps run there on the hour every hour, with the last man standing concept. It can be such a small world we actually knew the timekeeper and tail walker as well, more people combining parkrun and touristing.

Hannibal’s Bucket, is pretty interesting, this old coal dragline bucket is so big you can drive your car in! It is just off the side of the road as you come into town.

Along the Sandy creek and highway was pretty flat but the bush section hid all the 27 metres of elevation gain.
