Between chasing some new international parkruns on our recent holiday we got to stay with a few friends. It was good to stay in a house and see how the real local do things compared with just moving from hotel to hotel in all the tourist areas. I have seen a few different places in England over the years but there is still so much I have not seen. Our little trip to Portishead was some thing new for me. It was nice to be out of the bigger cities and some where a bit more lay back. The beach was a little different to all the white sand back home in Australia but still relaxing. Our hosts warned me not to walk down in the mud. It was funny how it was so tempting but I remember trying that out in a Western Australian town called Derby which had like fifteen metre tidal swings. One step got me knee deep in sticky mud and feeling like it wanted to suck me deeper. I do not feel as young and invincible as I did back then so was happy to stay on the pathways.

Portishead means the port at the head of the river, makes a lot of sense. The river is the Severn Estuary. I think I have seen people surf that river with the big tide changes.
