The last of my old travel stories and photos, now all documented thanks to TravelFeed and Pinmapple. My son with his first car. A Toyota 4wd Hilux. He only looks small but he had been working at the local supermarket since he was 14 and three quarters (the legal working age in Australia). He hated the job but we had a deal. We would double what ever money he could save so he could buy a decent 4 wheel drive car that he had set his mind on. He surprised me but I always knew he had it in him. School was always a problem but anything that might get him a 4wd vehicle seemed to sharpen his focus. Weeks before his birthday and getting his Learners driver qualification we got the car.

All his friends were failing there learners driving test, Not Liam the first day after he turn of ages we were queued up and he pasted first time. It would have been handy if he could have done all his school work like that.

So with all the boxes ticked he wants to go away on his first trip. Straddie he says and it sounded like fun. So the photo above us us waiting for the ferry.

The bay was flat as a pan cake first thing in the morning for the crossing between Cleveland and Dunwich.

We started off with a bit of beach driving at a quiet spot at the north end of Flinders beach.

It was not long before the boys wanted some thing a bit more challenging. My son friends older brother and his mates were there showing us how it was done. They found this steep rutted track just to the side of blue lake road. No one could make it up. They kept trying but sliding to one side and had to roll back and exit the track. Eventually they 2 way radioed us and it was our turn. So with his Learners plates and his dad sitting next to him and his mate in the back we were off. I am not totally sure I he did it but he was the only one that made it to the top. Maybe it was beginners luck, We had only briefing chatted about not changing gears and keeping the revs up.
