This park is in the southwest corner of Chiang Mai's old city, basically the only park in the old city. I had spotted it when we were googling for some accommodation in the old city for a couple of night before flying on to the next leg of our Asian loop holiday back in November 2023. Sort of playing catch up after missing a lot of travel during covid, visiting some family and trying to pick up some international parkruns in south east Asia. We started by getting the cheapest flight we could out of Brisbane in Australia to Singapore for a long weekend and a parkrun then it was a low cost budget airline called scoot direct to Chang Mia Thailand.

It’s full name is Suan satarana nong buak hat the first two words mean public garden and the last bit means marsh made into a beach.

We were staying a couple of streets away so I could do some running in the park, to try and stay fit but in the end I never ran in the park as it was a bit small and the loop around the moat and old city walls was way more exciting.

It was great to walk in the park though, aways lots of people doing many different activities or just relaxing.

The most interesting activity in the park was Sepak takraw, we do not see much of it back in Australia. It is sort of volley ball played with your feet, knees, shoulder, chest or head, basically anything just not your hands or arms. Sepak Takraw means to kick a rattan ball and is a very popular game in South East Asia. It would be good to have a try but I do not think I would be very coordinated at it.

It was only about 400 odd metres around the outside, small but well worth a visit.
