I spent some of my back packing holiday in 1993 in Manchester's main library. I snapped this photo from the front seat of a double decker bus on my way there one morning. Before all this family history stuff went online you had to access old record on micro fish film. This was my grand father back in the 1940s in Longsight, Manchester, I found it interesting that the house still seem to be there today. From what my family told me I thought my grand father would have a long Mancunian history. He was born there but his father was from Norwich in Norfolk and his mother was of Irish decent but his wife Sarah had much more local roots.Sarah was a Huxley which seem to originate from a small rural in Cheshire not far from Manchester and her mother was a Cheetham which appears to have a deep local connection with one of the suburb's called Cheetham Hill.I did not trace my Cheetham connections back far enough to prove any connect to the famous Cheetham's of Manchester but to have the surname means they must have been at least living in the area in the early days.I visited the Manchester cathedral as a few of my ancestors were married and baptise there. The trip was not all boring history stuff, I got to see Man united play at Old Trafford just like my Dad did growing up.I remember this match well. It cost my way more than 8 pounds for this scalpers ticket, I was lucky to have a young cousin help me get it. I think it was like 25 pound or $50Aud but it was worth it getting to see them win with 5 goals all scored at my end. I could not understand all the songs but the big crowd and atmosphere was something special.
