I forgot to write up a few photos from our short New Zealand holiday back in 2021 . It is always worth adding them to the travelfeed map as a sort of a back up photo album and the pins on your map are a great way to find things and jog memories years down the track. Mount Eden in Auckland was a great place to visit just an easy short bus ride from the centre of town. The old Volcanic plug gave a great view of town but also a bit of a history lesson. The information centre had lots on how a Maori tribe had fortified the hill. Other than the view of town you could also see other Volcanic plugs nearby. I could just imagine being able to see other fortified tribes on the other hill tops not that far away.We spent an hour walking about three kilometres around the paths.The fortifications were abandoned in the 1700s before European settlers arrived.I suppose the area must have been covered in trees at some point in time.I don't think I have ever got to look down into an extinct volcano before. Looks like a tough lawn mowing job.Lots of other people were enjoying the view. We were lucky the rain held off.Auckland city and the sky tower.The risingstar game cap on tour, it's first trip overseas It would have been a good spot to do some hill running but we had already worked out at a local parkrun in the morning.
