This was a recent weekend road trip away to test sleeping in the back of our Toyota Prado for the first time. We like to travel but it is very expensive so if we can lower a few costs we can get a few more adventures done. We stayed at the Maryborough showground overnight with all the grey nomads and there very expensive caravans and vans. We looked like cheap skates but it reminded of backpacking overseas and driving around Australia years ago. I build a raised bed in the back of the Prado so we could stretch out. It was not that luxurious but it did the job and we got to explore this part of the Frazer Coast regional area. The show grounds had a clean toilet block and power for $28 per night, maximum stay 3 nights. Maryborough is just over a three hour drive north for us, too far for a day drip but perfect to test an over night stay.

I did not know but the author of the book Mary Poppins grew up here. They have made it a bit of a tourist attraction with a few statues and even the traffic light walk signs in the shape of a lady with an umbrella.

The town hall and tourist centre had the best decorated toilet block i have ever see. Fit for royalty!

The guns were taken of old ships which was all part of a navel defensive system that used to be based here.

The town being wrapped around the mighty Mary river has had some major flooding over the years. It is really hard to imagine the water level rising this high but I believe it as Queensland can get a lot of tropical rain.

Better than I thought. still work in progress, I had to raise the bed platform pretty high to be able to get enough space for both of us to stretch out.
