Maleny Trail parkrun was my 63rd different event location, it was a pretty good one in the Sunshine Coast hinterland about an hour and half north of Brisbane. Maleny was originally a timber town but is now a trendy tourist town. We were there for their 7th event back in early 2021. We parked the car in the middle of the main street ready for coffee and breakfast afterwards. Then just jogged to the start line which was sort of at a sporting complex nearby.

It has a very fast start straight a grassed downhill through a gate then on to the trail. The trail starts on a concrete path before heading into the bush and a bit of a dirt single track, complete with quite a few exposed tree roots.

The out and back course was on varied terrain and had a little bit of everything. 27 minutes seems a bit slow for me back then, but I suppose the 61 metres of elevation gain was more taxing than I remember.

They had a platypus viewing platform into a pond near the creek and some friendly horses. There were plenty of horses but unfortunately no platypus.

It was easy to find a spot for a quick dip in the Obi Obi creek after the run. The creek was named after a noted Aboriginal warrior from the local Indigenous group.

We checked out the glass house mountains on the way home from Mary Cairncross Park. The old volcanic plugs are always an impressive site. We have climbed a couple of the easier ones.
