Even on an average day the Queensland Gold Coast is pretty good.

We love getting down there early and watching the sun rise.

There are lots of Gold Coast beaches to chose from but Main Beach is one of our favorites as it is the quickest to get to from Brisbane with some decent waves.

Gold Coast Oceanway, is a 36-kilometre long pathway from The Spit at the north to Point Danger in the south. One day I would like to run, walk or ride the whole way.

Main beach on the Gold Coast is also home to Australia’s first and longest running parkrun. On this day we visited, it was there birthday. It was there 574th event and there 12th anniversary.

Free birthday cake after the run. I did not have any but I like the way the parkrun volunteers and locals put so much effort in for a free local event.

The course is pretty flat and run on a mixture of grass, gravel and concrete path just behind the beach amongst the sand dunes. It was my 389th parkrun at 111 different locations. My time for the 5 kilometres was 33 minutes 25 seconds. Almost 10 minutes slower than what I usually do for a 5 kilometre run but I was taking it easy as I was still trying to strengthen my ankle before pushing to run faster again.

We had a bit of a swim and a relax on the beach with a coffee after the run, before heading home. The wind had dropped right off, like the calm before the storm but the rain stayed off shore.
