190 kilometres north of Brisbane is Gympie. After driving for 2 hours it is always good to stretch the legs out. Lake Alford is the perfect spot with plenty of parking, clean toilets, shade and a chance to connect with a bit of nature. It's only about 700m around the lake but that perfect distance for us to get the blood moving, have a bit to eat, drink and grab a few photos before we on our way again. We have used this nice spot as a pit stop on a few recent long weekends away. (Photo is a screenshot of my Strava app)So many different types of birds all the in one spot. (Photo of a sign at the park)Black Swan and its teenage childWestern Corella (a type of Cockatoo)Lots of little turtles and eels in the lakePeak a Boo.Thought I was in some trouble when this large Black Swan came marching towards me but I think they're just used to being fed by human visitors to the park. All those white dots in the back ground on the island are birds nesting.Showing off or drying off?Pretty impressive wings! The couple of islands in the middle of the park were covered with Cattle Egret and Ibis (birds). The Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum is located right next door.Gold was found here 1867 and supposedly saved Queensland from bankruptcy.Gympie Memorial Rotunda right next to the Museum as well.We have not been into the museum yet, maybe on another trip when we have more time. A couple of Pacific Ducks to finish off our visit for this trip.
Thanks for coming on a lap of Lake Alford with me!
