Gold Coast City
It gets hot in Queensland in summer, in this photo it was 26 degrees Celsius at 6.30am. More than the heat though, the humidity makes it very uncomfortable but I will not let any of that get in the way of getting another parkrun done. This was event number 610 for Kirra on one of my favorite flat, double out and back courses on the Gold Coast beach path. The numbers were a little down maybe because it has been so warm this early in the South East Queensland summer. Only 211 runner and walkers completed this free timed event. I was expecting closer to 300. It was my third time on this course and my slowest time ever as I was trying some low heart rate zone running.
Any bit of shade was was such a relief.
You can just make out the surfers paradise sky scrappers at the northern end of the Gold Coast tourist strip.
The next beach south of here is named Coolangatta after a ship wreck in 1846.
There were a steady stream of tandem sky diver landing on the beach. They all seemed to do this swinging steep descent to finish off. I suppose it adds to the thrill.
Start and finish
The second turn around only leaves you with 500 meters left to the finish line.
Some of the locals were watching from the sand dunes.
This parkrun was just a slow jog for me trying keep my heart rate in zone two to improved my base fitness.
My strave screen shot shows some of the wonderful beaches in this part of the world.
29 more to go until I reach 500.
We had quick swim after the run.
Then it was off for some much needed coffee and breakfast.
The Switch cafe at Tugun was great.
The Minneta an unusual sculpture at Tugun village.
