Grafton is located on the Clarence river in the Northern Rivers district of New South Wales. About 4 hour driving from Brisbane to the north and 6 hours to Sydney in the south. It used to be on the main road between Sydney and Brisbane, before the big highway bypass was built and we have travelled through it many times on other trips but never stayed overnight.How big is this tree right in the middle of town. Grafton is pretty famous for its purple flower Jacaranda trees but we were not there at the right time of year to see them flowering.The train bridge.How cool is this old post office building.The Bundjalung and Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal people are the traditional custodians of the area . We had dinner at the Indian Cottage Restaurant, inside this old bank building.The inside was pretty impressive will such a high ceiling.The old clock tower in the middle of town was looking pretty dated.But the clock tower was more attractive than the telecommunications tower that dominated the sky line.Our accommodation was close to everything, was affordable and did the job.Grafton has flooded many times and is right on the bend of the mighty Clarence River it was interesting to see the control measures they have build and put in place. I suppose this large bend in the river made it an ideal location in the early farming days.Looks like it is time to go! Thanks for visiting.
