Esk is a nice little country town an hour and half north west of Brisbane. It is in the Somerset council area very close to Wivenhoe dam and the Brisbane river.

Esk is named after the river Esk in Scotland and England, it has a population of about 1600 and sits below Glen Rock.

The traditional custodians did not really have a name for this area as it was at the intersection of three different communities. Therefore they just called it the meeting place.

Pipeliner park is named after a water pipe that was constructed in 2010 between Wivenhoe dam and the Cressbrook dam. If the water level in Cressbrook, Toowoomba, at the top of the range, drops to low they pump it from down here.

The country markets was at Pipeliner park which is open 7 am to noon every Saturdays. We had a walk around straight after doing the Old Esk station parkrun.

The parkrun was held on part of the rail trail. It has become quite a trend for these country towns on the rail trail to set up parkruns. It is great for building community spirit and helps bring a few extra tourist in. I love the fact that we might not have ever visited if not for parkrun but we now have.
