Covid, large crowds and people rushing to get between two events brought the end to the New Years Day doubles. It was a bit disappointing at the time; it felt like anything that was fun and free would eventually get canned. But it didn’t really matter in the big picture, one event was really enough for my aging body, it was probably kind of parkrun to put a stop to it. For this New Years Day event in 2021 were driving south to visit Caroline’s family over the summer holidays, we decided on the inland highway, which is a bit longer, but it avoids all the holidays crowds heading for the beach areas. Dubbo is famous in this part of the world for its big wide open spaced zoo. Dubbo Zoo, Mt Arthur and the Narromine Wetlands. - TravelFeed It was good to revisit the zoo as I remember my parents taking me there as a small child. The zoo is a big place that requires a lot of walking though you can hire bike or a buggy now too. The Rhinos are where my favorite because we don’t see just wandering around our local nature reserve, but back to the parkrun.

The 5km out-and-back course was along the scenic Macquarie River and Tracker Riley Cycleway. The course starts from Sandy Beach Park. It was a pleasant run with some good views if you are not pushing too hard to enjoy them.
