Europeans have only been in Coolah since 1840 before that it was the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi peoples in the surrounding area that used this valley as a meeting place.

I had never heard if Coolah, but I had heard of the old saying beyond the back stump. I was not sure what that meant other than it was something far away. It seems there are a number of country town trying to claim this phrase as ther own, but Coolah recons they were the first and have the strongest claim when their pub burnt to the ground leaving only a black stump. At the time Coolah was one of the furthest places from Sydney, hence and there was not much out beyond the back stump. There are tonnes of places to visit beyond the black stump now you just have to have enough time and money to see it all. I doubt I will ever go close, but it is fun to try.

The country post offices in these places are always pretty unique. I had to laugh because with knowing at the time I captured the new form of communications in the background as well.
