Clarke Quay is the old river trading and warehouses area that has been colourfully redeveloped into pedestrian mall. This area looked pretty quite on this morning other than the odd boat cruises that were venturing up and down the river. It seemed most of the buildings housed night clubs, bars and restaurants.

This area was named after sir Andrew Clark the second Governor of Singapore from 1873 to 1875.

I ran here early one morning, which was nice along the river on a nice wide flat path free of traffic.

I was fascinated by these red hatted Chinese women murals and sculptures which were all about the place in Singapore. It seems in the early 1900s times were tough in southern China and these Samsui women came to Singapore and work long hard hours in construction and helped make Singapore what it is today. The red hats were too keep there hair clean but also help prevent accidents on the work site, much like the modern day high vis jackets and clothing I have to wear today.

The old Hill street Police station. It was an active police station but now home to the ministry of Culture, Community, Communications and Youth. The building has a total of 927 windows that seemed painted in the colours of the rainbow. I suppose they needed lots of windows in the old days in this very hot climate.
