Chinchilla
About 300 kilometres west of Brisbane between three and a half or four hours of driving, depending if you you choose the toll roads. For us this time we chose not to use the tolls and saved $20Aud there and back but it took half an hour longer each way. I often wonder how much the tolls save on wear, tear and maintenance on the car, Usually if were pushed for time we pay the tolls but saving a few dollars means we can do a few more trips.
I don't think i have every been to the Western Downs before.
Home of the big water melon.
There Yearly festival looked interesting but Caroline does not like Water Melon and I am less a fan of the big crowds nowadays.
Most people drive straight past Chinchilla as the you have to turn off the main highway west to go through the main street of town, its is well worth the deviation.
The old Queenslander pub seems to have a new modern name.
Hopefully there not much need for this.
I bet in summer these nice trees give some much needed shade.
Hard to imagine this dry looking place flooded but it is very flat.
We decided to sleep in the back of the car at the show grounds, to save some more dollars. only $10 for both of us. The caretaker was a bit surprised, they have single people sleep in cars but there not much room for two in the Toyota Prado.
Sunset was nice, lots of flying foxes filled to sky as soon as it got dark.
It is pretty tight for two of us sleeping in the back of the car but not too back just for one night.
Sunrise and getting ready for parkrun but that's another post.
