Chang Mai is the largest city in northern Thailand and the second biggest over all with well over a million people. It is about 700 km north of Bangkok and is situated in a mountains region called the Thai Highlands.

It was formed around 1296 as the new Capital city when it took over from Changi Ria further to the north. Chiang Mia actually means "New City"

I did not quite get to ride in the back of a pick up like lots of the locals do but a quick photo out the back window sure made it look like I did.

The city is located on the Ping River. Not the best looking water colour but I don’t think many big city rivers do nowadays.

This was another temple on the river where people would buy fish for good luck and release them back into the river, I suppose it also helps with to rebalance to rivers eco system.
