The river was named after James Charles Burnett the first European to visit in 1847.  The tractional custodians are the Taribelang Aboriginal people.

Bundaberg city seems a bit old even with a big population increase in the area. Almost booming but the housing and infrastructure seems to be generally further out of town along the coast line. The Riverside parklands seems to be nicest place in town.

The boardwalk and pedestrian ramp shows flood marks at 9 meters which pretty much goes up to the top level.

There were quiet a few big fishing vessels and yachts moored in the river, we saw a couple taking they dingy back out to there yacht with supplies they had got in town. It would be a very interesting life style living on a boat and constantly travelling.
