While we were doing the Blaise parkrun the locals gave us a few tips of other things to see in the area. It is an important part of our parkrun travels to see as many of the other things near by as possible. So straight after our run we were following another path to the top of a hill to check out Blaise Castle. I thought it was some important historical structure but I later found out it was just a folly, more an ornamental structure build by the local land owner. We did not see inside but from the top of the hill there was a nice view of Bristol as well.

The Castle was built in 1766 near Henbury in Bristol on the highest point within the Blaise Castle Estate.

Also within the Blaise Castle Estate is the Blaise House from the 18th century which is now a museum.

Other than the hill and folly the local parkrunners recommend Blaise Hamlet, a group of stone thatched cottages grouped in a circle. It funny how it was surround by new housing. I actually missed the small iron gated entry as a ran past. I quickly saw my mistake after checking google maps and doubled back. I had incorrectly assumed that theses building would have just been on the main street of town. It was hard to tell if these places was inhabited but with all the long grass I thought not.

The Hamlet is a group of nine small cottages around a green built in 1811 for retired employees, I am now retired employee I wonder if I qualify. I suppose I needed to have worked for the Blaise Estate.
