Barangaroo is right in the middle of Sydney and is a pretty cool place, we often walk and run there if we are staying nearby. So much development done, really well, such a nice public space. For me it is at its best early in the morning when there are less people about. This area was named after an Aboriginal woman from the Cammeraygal clan who lived in and around the north harbour and Manly. After her first husband died of smallpox which also decimated her clan, she married Bennelong, a Wangal elder and one of the best-known Aboriginal people from the late 1700s. The Sydney Opera House sits on land named after him. Bennelong was quite friendly with the European settlers even after being captured and shackled. At one point he even travelled to England to meet the King George. Barangaroo was more protective of her traditional way of life and argued with the ownership of possessions and the collection of more food than could be used for immediate use. It must have been incredible hard been so Independent and strong but having the world change so quickly around you.

The water still looked good enough to swim in even with all the traffic using the harbour. I think that is a shark net at the entrence to keep the people safe.

Some of the old buildings and wharfs have been transformed from trading and storage sheds into expensive apartments.
