Hello, I hope you are well ☺️ Today I come to continue showing you and tell you a little about the lagoon of the seven cities that I told you about in the previous post. The Azores was without a doubt the best place I have visited so far. The Seven Cities Lagoon is one of the most emblematic and beautiful places in the Portuguese archipelago. This volcanic lagoon is made up of two lagoons, one blue and one green. In this post we will explore the charms of this region, both on sunny days and cloudy days, highlighting the stunning landscapes.
As I approach the lagoon, whether on a sunny day or a cloudy morning, the visual impact is immense. The road that takes us to the lagoon winds through green hills and fields with lots of flowers, providing unforgettable panoramic views. From the Vista do Rei viewpoint, which is a viewpoint that I will talk about in a following post, the scene unfolds in all its magnificence: the blue lagoon, reflecting the clear sky or covered by a blanket of clouds, contrasting with the green lagoon, whose Serene waters reflect the lush vegetation around.
The weather in the Azores varies a lot and the lagoon of the seven cities is no exception, it was our stop on our trip and the first half changed about 4 times 🤣 but it was always hot. The vibrant colors of the lagoon and the surrounding vegetation seem to catch your eye. The banks of the lagoon are covered in diverse vegetation, where the intense greens of ferns and trees stand out, interspersed with lively cores of local flowers. In this scenario, I and all other visitors can walk peacefully along the trails near the lake shore, enjoying spectacular views as you can see in the photographs and the tranquility of this magical place.
When it is cloudy, the lagoon takes on a mysterious and almost mystical character. The darkness that often forms over the lagoon gives the environment a feeling of unreality, as if we were entering a world of fairy tales. All you can hear is the gentle sound of the wind passing through the trees and the occasional birdsong. With the cloudy atmosphere, the landscape takes on a new dimension, with the shadows of the hills and trees reflected diffusely on the surface of the water, creating an impressive visual effect.
Exploring this area around the lagoon is a unique experience. There are several hiking trails near the shore that allow us to appreciate the natural beauty from different angles. One of the trails that is most frequently followed by visitors is the one that goes from the Vista do Rei viewpoint to the village of Sete Cidades itself. It's a walk that lasts around 2 hours, passes through several agricultural fields, dense forests and offers stunning views. I know I'm always saying it has stunning views but that's the reality. Along the tour it is possible to observe local fauna, such as water birds and different mammals.
Here is a picturesque and welcoming place, where life seems to follow a slower pace, a very different pace to my everyday life 🤣
A legend that I learned in the Azores was that there was a blue-eyed princess who fell in love with a green-eyed shepherd, but love between them was prohibited due to their different social conditions. However, they found themselves hiding along the banks of the lagoon. When they found out that they were separated forever, they cried so much that their tears formed two lagoons, the blue lagoon and the green lagoon. This romantic legend adds a touch of magic and mystery to the landscape
In addition to hiking, the lagoon offers many more activities. During the warmer months it is possible to rent kayaks, camp and camp as I said in the previous post, it is possible to explore the calm waters of the lagoon
Regardless of the weather conditions, Sete Cidades Lagoon is a destination that promises to delight everyone who visits, sunny days reveal a vibrant and full landscape and life while cloudy days offer a more serene experience. This balance between light and shadow, between the known and the mysterious, is what makes this place so special and unforgettable.

Os Açores foram sem dúvida o melhor local que visitei até agora. A Lagoa das Sete Cidades é um dos locais mais emblemáticos e bonitos do arquipélago português. Esta lagoa vulcânica é composta por duas lagoas, uma azul e outra verde. Neste post iremos explorar os encantos desta região, tanto em dias de sol como em dias nublados, destacando as paisagens deslumbrantes.
À medida que me aproximo da lagoa, seja num dia de sol ou numa manhã nublada, o impacto visual é imenso. A estrada que nos leva até à lagoa serpenteia por colinas verdejantes e campos floridos, proporcionando vistas panorâmicas inesquecíveis. Do miradouro da Vista do Rei, que é um miradouro de que falarei num post seguinte, o cenário desenrola-se em toda a sua magnificência: a lagoa azul, reflectindo o céu límpido ou coberta por um manto de nuvens, contrastando com o verde da a lagoa, cujas águas serenas refletem a exuberante vegetação que a rodeia.
O clima nos Açores varia muito e a lagoa das sete cidades não foge à regra, foi a nossa paragem na nossa viagem e o primeiro tempo mudou umas 4 vezes 🤣 mas estava sempre quente. As cores vibrantes da lagoa e da vegetação circundante parecem chamar a sua atenção. As margens da lagoa estão cobertas por uma vegetação diversificada, destacando-se os verdes intensos dos fetos e das árvores, intercalados com vivos cachos de flores locais. Neste cenário, eu e todos os outros visitantes podemos caminhar tranquilamente pelas trilhas próximas à margem do lago, desfrutando de vistas espetaculares como vocês podem ver nas fotografias e da tranquilidade deste lugar mágico.
Quando está nublado, a lagoa assume um carácter misterioso e quase místico. A escuridão que muitas vezes se forma sobre a lagoa confere ao ambiente uma sensação de irrealidade, como se estivéssemos entrando num mundo de contos de fadas. Tudo o que você pode ouvir é o som suave do vento passando pelas árvores e o canto ocasional dos pássaros. Com o ambiente nublado, a paisagem ganha uma nova dimensão, com as sombras dos morros e das árvores refletidas difusamente na superfície da água, criando um efeito visual impressionante.
Explorar esta área ao redor da lagoa é uma experiência única. Existem vários percursos pedestres perto da costa que nos permitem apreciar a beleza natural de diferentes ângulos. Um dos percursos mais frequentados pelos visitantes é o que vai do miradouro da Vista do Rei até à própria vila das Sete Cidades. É um passeio que dura cerca de 2 horas, passa por vários campos agrícolas, densas florestas e oferece vistas deslumbrantes. Sei que sempre digo que tem vistas deslumbrantes, mas a realidade é essa. Ao longo do passeio é possível observar a fauna local, como aves aquáticas e diversos mamíferos.
Aqui é um local pitoresco e acolhedor, onde a vida parece seguir um ritmo mais lento, um ritmo muito diferente do meu quotidiano 🤣
Uma lenda que aprendi nos Açores é que existia uma princesa de olhos azuis que se apaixonou por um pastor de olhos verdes, mas o amor entre eles era proibido devido às diferentes condições sociais. Porém, eles se esconderam nas margens da lagoa. Quando descobriram que estavam separados para sempre, choraram tanto que suas lágrimas formaram duas lagoas, a lagoa azul e a lagoa verde. Esta lenda romântica adiciona um toque de magia e mistério à paisagem
Além das caminhadas, a lagoa oferece muito mais atividades. Durante os meses mais quentes é possível alugar caiaques, acampar e acampar como falei no post anterior, é possível explorar as águas calmas da lagoa
Independentemente das condições meteorológicas, a Lagoa das Sete Cidades é um destino que promete encantar todos os que a visitam, os dias de sol revelam uma paisagem e vida vibrante e plena enquanto os dias nublados oferecem uma experiência mais serena.
