The Basílica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebú(Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebú) commonly known as the Santo Niño Basilica, is a minor basilica in Cebu City in the Philippines that was founded in the 1565 by Fray Andrés de Urdaneta, O.S.A. and Fray Diego de Herrera, O.S.A.. The oldest Roman Catholic church in the country, it is built on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño de Cebú was found during the expedition of Miguel López de Legazpi. The icon, a statuette of the Child Jesus, is the same one presented by Ferdinand Magellan to the chief consort of Rajah Humabon upon the royal couple's christening on April 14, 1521. It was found by a soldier named Juan de Camuz forty years later, preserved in a wooden box, after Legazpi had razed a local village.When Pope Paul VI made the church a basilica in 1965, he declared it to be "the symbol of the birth and growth of Christianity in the Philippines."

There you have the history of Sto. Niño above. If you arrived at the back this is what you will see. Many vendors in the street, they just don't place their products at the side of the street. They almost occupied the road. If you'll go in the church bringing a car. It's a bad idea because it's hard to go inside. But if you'll enter at the main entrance it's fine because there is a parking area there. I'm not sure if there's a payment of it. I told you it's a bad idea to bring a car and your way on the back.

Sorry the photo is bad, I'm shy to take pictures. Anyway at least you'll have an idea at the back. I couldn't take photo inside the church during the mass, it's prohibited. But I took one sculpture near at the exit. I took it when the mass was finish. This is like a falls but made with stone and I think there's a faucet that supplying water of it, look.

It amazed me looking at it, but they said there are many inside like that. I just didn't get inside because I'm planning to go in the market. Now here's what you see when you go outside, but still this is part of the church.

This one you can see, people are selling "taho." I don't know if other countries have this kind of food. One thing I'm assure of, this was made from soy beans. They also said this food have lot of vitamins. You will recognise them because they always shout when walking in the street, selling that food and shout, "TAAAAAAHOOOOO."

Enough for that, let's go to the carbon market.

This is not the market yet but when you enter near at the market, many vegetables, spices, camote, banana to be boiled and etc. CARBON market is know in the whole Cebu. Even in my place that's very far from Cebu, it's Southern Leyte. We heard a lot about how cheap the products that are selling in carbon. I think it's 1 km away from the church before you reach carbon market. When I'm almost there this is what you will see.

The place is so crowded and it's hard to go inside, it's a bad idea also to bring a car. lol
Many people came here because of the cheap price in the products. But it provides an unpleasant smell that it's hard for you breathe. Maybe it's normal because many different products were being displayed here. There are fish, meat, chicken, dried fish, and when you go to the other side there are "ukay-ukay." Wait did you know what is "ukay-ukay?" Actually "ukay-ukay product" came from abroad. It's like a surplus or even junk by those people from different countries. I'm not sure if they bought but one thing I'm sure of. Ukay-ukay came from other countries and it was sold here for a bit cheaper. We don't know if that dress still beautiful that's why we bought it.

Enough for that, this is what you'll see in the entrance of carbon market.

By the way, carbon market is not an establishment. Yes there is a market from a far but actually carbon market is like a whole brgy. Carbon market is a wide area where you can find all what you wanted. Anything you want to buy, you will find it here in a cheap price. Just don't expect a branded quality because you can't find it here. hahaha
But if you want to buy fresh fish, you can find here, just be there early.

One other thing, expect the unpleasant smell and also be careful. Crowded place means many different types of people are there. If there are good guys, there will always be a bad guys.
