Libro Aperto - Peaks and valleys beetwen Toscana and Emilia Romagna
Abetone lies across the peaks that naturally divide the Toscana and Emilia Romagna regions here is one of the best place to ski around these parts but even when the snow leaves the land naked there's a lot of beauty to witness.
There are countless walking routes starting up from Abetone today I would like to show you the east side easy trip you can take from the town. Going north from the big parking you'll find an easy and wide gravel road on your right side. Taking it will take you on soft almost plain walk until around 40 minutes in you find a big field where people usually stop for having launch or picnic. In sunny days here is very crowded but our journey takes us further,
From that camp the road start to climb up fast, turning a promenade into something more natural for a mountain goat. It's still on the easy side but be prepared as the path narrow down among stones and steps that start to get very inclined.
As one climbs up the weather here always get cloudy, or better it change very fast with mountains having a seductive attraction for clouds, the last stretch of the walk before getting on top is the hardest one due to very spiky rock formation coming up from the ground. Here on the ridge other routes unfold some riding toward Emilia Romagna some others in Toscana.
One of the view from here is the valley of Libro Aperto, wich mean Open Book and when you are there you can see how it resembles an opened book sitting on a field stand. The fauna here mainly consist of falcons, eagles soaring the sky and marmots digging and crawling the peaks.
There's a magic to the mountain places like this, naked of all the trees and just the shapes of earth in sight with all the complexity displayed in the strength of the moving lands colliding ages ago.
As always I reccomend you choose the cleanest of days one going up in the mountains ranges or be very cautious if you want to journey on bad weather days. Take your time and enjoy :D
