Bangkok - Phra Borom Maha Ratcha Wang, the Grand Palace
The day I went to visit the grand palace wasn't the greatest, Bangkok was under a veil of clouds and the month long celebration of the funeral for old king Bhumibol Adulyadej were going on with Thailandese people coming from all over the nation to say goodbye to their king. What's bad about that you say? Nothing but I felt strange, the policemens were guarding every corner of the city and from what I gathered that period wasn't under democratic circustamces. Thailand has gone through so many political identities in the last century from dictatorial through democracy, all under the 70 year long kingdom of King Bhumibol the Great. This though I felt only in the capital, the other places were much more laid out and chill a real paradise on earth.
But now let's get to the Grand Palace, the place that stood out the most for me in Bangkok, in all the grey skyscrapers and crowded hallways in the middle of the city rise this gigantic construction of temples, bells, statues and gardens. A place that will give no rest to your eyes
The colors is what make this place such a wonder to walk into, everything is shining and with many different color palette mixing toghether on different monuments. There's even a lot of freedom of movement has it wasn't restricted in a one way tour but you were free to crawl around as you like the most.
The Grand Palace has been first enstablished by King Rama I choose this location at the cross end beetwen 1700-800. King Rama was the spiritual and the terrain king of the people from the reign of Ayutthaya, he was the Buddha for his people too. The Grand Palace has continued to grow in size since with every new king till today Rama X
It is something like I've never seen before and the only criticism I can say is that many of the decorations feels way too symmetrical, telling a matemathical thruth but devoid of somekind of personality or inner spirit. This is all in my opinion, in general I felt this way with Bangkok but maybe that is what made it stuck with me the thing I needed to confront.
It was a daylong exploration as there are museum and chambers too for visiting so I let the images do the talk!
Have a goodday!
