This Easter, my husband and I, along with another couple, set off on an unforgettable island-hopping adventure through the Greek Dodecanese. Our journey took us from the historical charm of Rhodes, to the pastel-painted beauty of Symi, and into the peaceful nature of Butterfly Valley, a perfect balance of culture, nature, and relaxation.

Rhodes: A Timeless Blend of Culture and Celebration

We began in Rhodes, where the cobbled alleys of the Old Town instantly transported us to another era. The medieval architecture, lively markets, and Easter festivities filled the city with a warm and joyful energy. Everywhere we turned, there was something to admire—from ancient gates to quaint artisan shops.

One of my favorite discoveries? The locally made silver jewelry—I couldn’t resist picking up a few unique pieces, including one adorned with diamonds and zircon. Each item felt like a little piece of Greece to take home.

Butterfly Valley: A Peaceful Retreat in Nature

Not far from the city, we explored Butterfly Valley (Petaloudes)—a lush, green paradise. Even though we visited before butterfly season, the serene trails, gentle streams, and wooden bridges made for a peaceful, almost meditative experience. It was the perfect escape from the buzz of the town.

Symi: Picture-Perfect Tranquility

A cruise ride brought us to Symi, where the harbor looked like a postcard brought to life. Colorful neoclassical homes lined the hills, and the slow pace of life was incredibly refreshing. We spent the day wandering through the narrow lanes, enjoying the views, and sipping freshly squeezed orange juice—truly some of the best I’ve ever had.

Easter Feasting at Travas Restaurant

Back in Rhodes for Easter Sunday, we celebrated with a delicious dinner at Travas Restaurant. The meal was unforgettable—perfectly roasted lamb, traditional sides, and the warm hospitality that Greek tavernas are famous for. Sharing this moment with close friends in such a festive, welcoming atmosphere made it all the more meaningful.

This trip was everything we needed: sun, history, nature, friendship, and of course, food. From shopping for handcrafted jewelry to sipping fresh juice by the sea, every moment felt special. If you’re dreaming of an Easter getaway that’s both relaxing and culturally rich, this corner of Greece might just be your perfect match.
