Sightseeing with Grandma

One of the reasons I went to Härjedalen this time was to see my grandmother. I have made so many memories with my sambo's grandma, going for walks in the woods with her, picking blueberries, baking bread with her, and so many other things. She has welcomed us every time we have visited her and we are so happy to have had such a good time with her.

My sambo's grandma is from Funäsdalen, near the Norwegian border. I still don't understand standard Swedish, but the dialect of Funäsdalen, which is close to Norwegian, that she speaks is like music, and I think it's lovely to listen to. It is quite different from the Swedish I hear in Stockholm, and the nuances of pronunciation and phrasing seem to be a little different as well.

We headed to Funäsdalen, talking about my sambo's grandma's old memories, her many siblings (8 siblings), the time she met grandpa, and many other stories.

We took a short break for ice cream while the car recharged. We then decided to take the cable car up the mountain of Funäsdalen, which we had not been able to get to on our last visit. I had come to this town for sightseeing before, but I did not make it to the top that time, so this time I had a good memory.

Funäsdalen attracts ski tourists from all over Sweden in the winter. The area has a valley along the Norwegian border that is also a beautiful scenic spot.

The cable car took around 10 minutes to get to the top of the canyon. At the top, the view of the valley leading to Norway was clearly visible and very beautiful. My sambo's grandma explained to us that we were almost in Norway. It was a bit windy at the top, but the view from there was exhilarating and very beautiful. We left the place thinking that the view would be even more beautiful if we came here when it was snowing.

Why do these good times pass so quickly? I am so grateful that I was able to spend these memories with my sambo's grandmother. On the way home, a little surprising thing happened! To my surprise, a reindeer appeared in the middle of the road, which really surprised us! It reminded me of my trip to Kiruna. This area seems to be the area where the Sami people herd reindeer.

When we arrived at my sambo's parents' house, sambo's mom was waiting for us to cook a meal. She had purchased a pizza oven that allows her to make homemade pizzas, and she said, "Nice investment, right? It makes really good, authentic pizzas," she said, and she baked a lot of really good pizzas for us. Watching her quickly make the dough, and other ingredients on top of the dough, and quickly bake the authentic pizzas in no time at all, I thought she must really be a professional chef. Amazing!

When I am busy at work, I happily recall the memories of such a wonderful time I had. Work is important for making money. It is a fact of life in this world that we cannot live without money. However, I remember what my sambo mama often says. "I live more for how I spend my time than how I make money." Money is necessary for life, but I felt that more money than necessary creates stress and makes life unhappy rather than being rich. What is being rich?

おばあちゃんと観光しました

今回、ヘリエダーレン（Härjedalen）までいった理由の１つが、おばあちゃんに会いに行くことでした。おばあちゃんとはこれまでに、森に一緒に散歩に行ったり、ブルベリーを摘みに行ったり、パンを一緒に焼いたり、本当にたくさんの色々な思い出を作ることが出来ました。わたし達が遊びに行くたびに歓迎してくれて、本当によい時間を一緒に過ごせて、本当に幸せです。

おばあちゃんはノルウェーの国境に近い、Funäsdalenが出身です。わたしは標準語のスウェーデン語でも理解がまだまだですが、おばあちゃんが話す、ノルウェー語に近いFunäsdalenの方言は音楽の様で聞いててかわいいなと思います。ストックホルム市内で聞くスウェーデン語とは全く違い、発音や言い回しなどニュアンスも少し違うようです。

おばあちゃんの昔の思い出話や、たくさんいる兄弟の話（８人兄弟）、おじいちゃんに会った時の話など、色々な話をしながらFunäsdalenへ向かいました。

車の充電をする間、アイスクリームを食べて少し休憩しました。そして、前回来た時には行けなかったFunäsdalenの山にケーブルカーで登ることにしました。以前、観光にこの町に来たのですが、その際は頂上まで行けなかったので、今回はよい思い出が出来ました。

Funäsdalenは冬になるとスウェーデン中からスキーの観光客が集まります。この地域は渓谷がノルウェーの国境沿いにあり、そても美しい景勝地になっています。

ケーブルカーは１０分前後で渓谷の頂上まで行けました。頂上はノルウェーに続く渓谷の景色がはっきりと見えてとてもきれかったです。あっちはもうノルウェーよとおばあちゃんもわたしたちに説明してくれました。頂上は風が少し強く、でもそこからの景色は爽快でとてもきれかったです。ここに雪の降った時期に来たら、また格別な景色になるんだろうなぁと思いながらその地を後にしました。

なぜこのような楽しい時間はあっという間に過ぎ去っていくのでしょうか？このような思い出をおばあちゃんと過ごせたこと自体がとてもありがたいなと思います。帰り道では少しハプニングが起こりました！なんと、道路の真ん中にトナカイが出てきて、本当にびっくりしました！Kirunaに旅行に行った時のことを思い出しました。この地域はサーミの方がトナカイの放牧をしている地域の様ですね。

サンボの実家に着くと、サンボママが食事を作って待ってくれていました。自家製のピザをつくれるピザの窯を購入したようで、「いいい投資でしょ？これだと本当に美味しい本格的なピザが焼けるのよ」と言っていたように、本当に美味しいピザをたくさん焼いてくれました。さっさと生地から作って、その上にさっさとピーズや他の具材を手際よく盛りつけてあっという間に本格ピザが焼きあがっていく姿を見ていると、ママは本当にプロのシェフなのではと思うほどでした。

仕事で忙しくしていると、この様な素敵な時間を過ごさせてもらった時の思い出を楽しく思い出します。仕事はお金を稼ぐ為に大切です。お金が無いと生活が出来ないのは世の常です。しかし、サンボママがよく言っていることを思い出します。「私はお金を稼ぐより時間をどの様に過ごすかを考えて生きている。」より豊かな人生を送るためにお金は必要ですが、必要以上のお金はストレスを生み、そして人生を豊かどころか不幸にすると感じました。
