I visited Warsaw, Poland to see a friend for the first time in a long time, and was completely charmed by this truly beautiful country.

When I heard that a friend of mine had opened his second café, Happa to Mame, in Warsaw, I decided to go visit him to celebrate.　Please check back for a blog about my visit to the café.

I went to the cafe as a surprise, but my friend was busy preparing for the event and was not at the cafe.　When we contacted him, he was happy that we came to visit and we decided to meet again later.

Now that we had more time, so we decided to continue sightseeing in Warsaw. Compared to Stockholm, Warsaw has less strict alcohol tax regulations, it seems, and we were able to drink very good beer at a lower price than in Sweden. We love Poland already!

The first place we headed to was a bar called Hopito. The interior was spacious and very relaxing. There was a sports bar atmosphere and some customers were watching a soccer game.

Since we had come all the way to Warsaw, we decided that we would like to do a little sightseeing, so we decided to go sightseeing in the Old Town of Warsaw. Stockholm also has an old town called Gamla Stan in the city center, which is always crowded with tourists. It seems that there is a similar district in Warsaw, so I decided to go there anyways.

From Hopito, we traveled by Bolt and it took us roughly 15 minutes to get there easily. We considered taking the bus or subway, but decided to take the Bolt because we wanted to see the city and do some sightseeing.

The Bolt was a lot of fun and a great way to see the city, but it was surprisingly expensive and I would recommend taking the bus if price is a factor. However, the price is surprisingly high, so if you are looking for a more economical way to get around, I would recommend taking a bus.

There were few tourists from Japan and other Asian countries, but many tourists from within Europe, especially English and German, were often heard. Poland is a Catholic country, so the atmosphere in the old town was a little different from that of Stockholm or Germany, which are Protestant countries.

Some of the churches were built in the 1300s, and the stained glass windows in the churches were truly beautiful. However, the church is really cherished even today as a place of prayer rather than a tourist attraction, and it was like a quiet tour inside the building. There was definitely no touristy atmosphere like temples in Japan.

When I traveled to Warsaw, one of the things I wanted to do was eat authentic Korean food. I had heard in advance that there are many Korean companies operating in Warsaw and that there is authentic Korean food in the city. In Stockholm, there are Korean restaurants, but you cannot eat authentic food like barbeque. Even if there are, they are quite expensive and hard to afford. So I decided that I would definitely eat Korean food at least once while I was in Warsaw.

You are in Poland, you should eat Polish food! I guess, but, well, people's favorite food is always the same, isn't it?

We went to the Korean restaurant we wanted to go to, but unfortunately it was fully booked that day, so we had to make reservations for the next day and find a different restaurant for that day. The sun was setting, it was getting cold, and I was getting hungry. The first thing I saw was the Greek flag that jumped out at me and I decided to jump into that restaurant. Although we found the restaurant by chance, we were really impressed with the squid tempura that we ordered which was really delicious and tasty. You definitely cannot eat it in Scandinavia! I enjoyed it.

Hello, Drag Queens!

We enjoyed Greek food and drank lots of beer and wine because it was cheap. Since I was on vacation, we drank a lot of beer and wine without worrying about the price! We were so full that we decided to explore Warsaw at night with a feeling of fullness that was almost too much to bear. In the center of Warsaw, there is a building in the center of the city that looks like something out of Batman's movie, a remnant of the Russian occupation era, visible from everywhere. This building can be seen from anywhere in the center of the city, but I was curious as to what it was. So we decided to go for a stroll and have some fun.

When I went there, to my surprise, they were holding an LGBT film festival. I had heard that the Polish government had changed and started to take a stricter policy on LBGT, so I felt that it was a good thing that they were promoting understanding by holding this kind of event. There are many opinions out there, but I feel that a society that recognizes diversity and is inclusive is important for everyone. By the way, DragQueen's costumes were gorgeous and spectacular. Cool!

Happa to mame

久しぶりに友人に会うために訪れたワルシャワ、ポーランドですが、本当に美しい国ですっかりその国の魅力にはまってしまいました。

友人がワルシャワに自身の２店舗目であるカフェ (葉っぱと豆）を開店したと聞き、お祝いをかねて遊びに行くことにしました。　カフェに行った時のブログはまた見てみてください。

カフェにはサプライズで行ったのですが、友人は仕込みで忙しくカフェにはいないようでした。　連絡したら、遊びに来たことに喜んでくれ後日改めて会うことにしました。

時間が出来たので、ワルシャワ観光を続けることにしました。ワルシャワはストックホルムに比べて、アルコールの税規制が厳しくないのかスウェーデンに比べて安くとてもよいビールを飲むことが出来ました。

まず向かったのが、Hopitoというバーでした。店内は広々としていて、すごくリラックスできました。スポーツバーのような雰囲気もあり、店内ではサッカーの試合を観戦しているお客さんが居ました。

ワルシャワ旧市街

HopitoからはBoltを使って移動し、大体１５分ぐらいで簡単に行くことが出来ました。バスや地下鉄を使って移動することも考えたのですが、やっぱり観光をかねて街並みを見てみたいと思いBoltで移動することにしました。

Boltでの移動はすごく楽しくて、街並みも観れてすごくよかったのですが、意外に高くやっぱり価格を重視する場合はバスでの移動をお勧めします。ストックホルム市内ではBoltを使用した移動が多いのですが、ワルシャワではなかなか見ないのもやっぱり価格帯が少し高く設定しているからなのではと感じました。

日本をはじめ、アジアからの観光客は少なかったのですが、欧州内からの観光客は多く特に英語やドイツ語をよく聞きました。ポーランドはカトリックの国と言うこともあり、プロテスタントの国であるストックホルムやドイツとは旧市街の中でも少し雰囲気が違いました。

教会は１３００年代に建造されたものがあり、教会内のステンドグラスは本当に美しかったです。ただ、教会内は観光地と言うよりは、本当に祈りの場として現代でも大切にされており、静かに建物内を見学する感じでした。日本のお寺の様な、確実に観光地化された雰囲気はありませんでした。

韓国料理がギリシャ料理になった件

ワルシャワに旅行に行って、わたしの中でやりたいことが本格的な韓国料理を食べることでした。ワルシャワ市内は韓国企業の進出が多く、市内には本格的な韓国料理が食べれると事前に聞いていました。ストックホルムでは韓国料理レストランはあるのですが、焼肉の様な本格的な料理は食べれません。あったとしてもかなり高額で、なかなか手が出せません。そこで、ワルシャワに居てる間に一度は絶対に韓国料理を食べると決めていました。

ポーランドに来たんだから、ポーランド料理を食べるべき！とは思うのですが、まぁ、やっぱり人の好物と言うのはいつになっても変わらないものですよね。

行きたかった韓国料理のレストランに行ったところ、残念なことにその日は予約がいっぱいで、次の日に予約をとって、その日は違うレストランを探すことになりました。日も暮れて寒くなり、お腹もすいてきて、まず目に飛び込んできたギリシャ国旗を見てそのレストランに飛び込むことにしました。偶然見つけたレストランではありますが、本当においしく注文したイカの天ぷらが本当においしくておいしくて感動しました。絶対に北欧では食べれない！とか思いながら堪能しました。

ギリシャ料理を堪能し、安いのでビールやワインをたくさん飲みました。旅行中ということもあり、価格も気にせずガンガン飲みました！お腹もいっぱいになり、くるしいぐらいの満腹感を感じながら夜のワルシャワを散策することにしました。ワルシャワの中心街にはどこからも見えるロシア統治時代の名残があるバットマンが出てきそうな建物が中央に建っています。この建物は中心部からはどこからも見えるのですが、いったい何なのか気になっていました。そこで、散策をかねて遊びに行ってみることにしました。

行ってみると、なんとＬＧＢＴ映画祭を開催していました。ポーランドでは政権が変わり、ＬＢＧＴに関して厳しい政策が始まったと聞いていたので、この様な催しを行い理解推進を進めていることはとても良いことだと感じました。色々な意見がありますが、多様性を認め合い包摂的な社会は誰にとっても大切だと感じます。それにしても、ＤｒａｇＱｕｅｅｎの衣装は豪華で見ごたえがありました。
