Sweden in the deep snowy north

These three months from October to December passed in a blink of an eye.　The corona began to end, and with it, work got a little busier.　Thankfully, time flies when you are spending quality time. When work starts to become more fulfilling, we tend to spend less time with our families and lose sight of what we are working for.　It is precisely at such times that it is good to pause for a moment and take a deep breath.　Thankfully, I often feel grateful again to have someone nearby who can offer such advice.

Since I was considering going back to Japan at the end of the year and knew I would not be able to come to Ljusdal to visit, I decided to go and say hello to my Sambo grandparents for a break.

The snowy scenery seen from the train windows was breathtaking.

From Stockholm, we took a tram to the Arlanda Airport station first.　From Arlanda Airport station, you can transfer to a train heading to the northern part of Sweden. There, we changed to a high-speed train to Ljusdal.　In Stockholm, there was no snow at all, but around Gavle, it gradually started to snow all over the outside, and the scenery was really beautiful.

After arriving at my sambo's grandparent's house, we first ate cookies, watched TV together, and talked about the Swedish I was learning at language school. I could tell that they spoke when they spoke slowly. My pronunciation was bad so it was difficult for them to get what I was trying to say lol. Well, I am glad that at least I have improved some and made them understand what I was trying to say. Now I know what I need to practice more!

Afterward, we went to a lovely cafe that had recently been built.

The café building itself is a very historic building and was once a popular place in the town of Ljusdal as a theater.　Sambo's grandparents knew of the café and told us that they used to see plays there.

Now that theater had been renovated and turned into a restaurant and café.　We even ordered pizza from this restaurant, and it was darn good!　It seems to be popular as a café, and there were many locals there when we were there.　The interior of the cafe was very tastefully decorated, and it was beautifully converted into a cafe/restaurant while maintaining the atmosphere of the historic theater.　I would love to go there again when I visit Ljusdal.

Every time I come to Ljudal I make good memories. I love this town with lots of street art and artists.　I felt that I would like to support these new businesses that are starting new businesses by improving old buildings while keeping them beautiful, instead of destroying old historical buildings and building new ones.　I hope to visit again!

ユースダルへの旅行

１０月から１２月までのこの３か月はあっという間に過ぎ去っていきました。　コロナが終息し始め、それに伴い仕事が少しづつ忙しくなりました。　ありがたいことに、充実した時間を過ごしているとあっという間に時間は過ぎ去っていくものですね。仕事が充実し始めると、どうしても家族と過ごす時間が短くなり何のために仕事をしているのかを見失ってしまいがちになってしまうのではないでしょうか。　そういった時こそ、少し立ち止まり一息入れるのが良いものです。　ありがたいことに、そのようなアドバイスを入れてくれる人が近くにいると言うことは、改めてありがたいとしばし感じます。

今年は年末は日本に帰国することを検討していて、ユースダルには遊びに来れないと分かっていたので、息抜きをかねてわたしのサンボの祖父母に挨拶に行くことにしました。

ストックホルムから市電に乗ってまずはアーランダ空港駅まで向かいました。　アーランダ空港駅からスウェーデン北部に向かう列車に乗り換えることが出来ます。そこで、高速鉄道に乗り換えてユースダル（Ljusdal）へ向かいました。　ストックホルムでは全然雪も積もっていなかったのですあ、Gavleあたりから徐々に外は一面雪景色になって、本当に美しい景色が広がっていました。

祖父母の家に着いた後はまずはクッキーを食べたり、一緒にテレビを見たり、語学学校で習っているスウェーデン語をなれっている話などをしました。ゆっくり話してくれると分かりました。やっぱり発音が難しくて、これはもっと練習しないといけないなと感じました。まぁ、焦らず少しづつ上達させていければと感じています。　継続は力なりです。

その後、最近できたとても綺麗なカフェに行きました。

カフェの建物自体はとても歴史のある建物で、昔は劇場としてLjusdalの町では人気のある場所だったようです。　サンボの祖父母たちもそのカフェの事を知っていて、昔そこで演劇を見たと話していました。

今ではその劇場を改良してレストラン兼カフェにしていました。　ピザもこのレストランから頼んだのですが、とても美味しかったです！　カフェとして人気があるようで、わたしたちがいたときには沢山の地元の人が来ていました。　店内はとても気ないな装飾がされていて、歴史のある劇場の雰囲気を生かしたままきれいにカフェに改造されていて、とても素敵なカフェでした。　またLjusdalに行った時は行きたいなぁと感じました。

Ljudalには来るたびに良い思い出を作っています。ストリートアートがたくさんあり、アーティストが集まるこの町が大好きです。　古い歴史的な建造物をつぶして新しいものを作るのではなく、古い建造物をきれいにいかしながら改良して新しいビジネスを始めているこうした新しいビジネスを支えたいなぁと感じました。　また遊びに行きたいなぁ～。
