Sigtuna, one of my favorite towns in Sweden 🇸🇪
After living in Sweden for a few years, I have developed a favorite town. It is a town that I would like to visit with my mother and friends when they come to visit.
The name of that one of my favorite towns is called Sigtuna. Sigtuna is a town with a very long history and I think of it as a town like Nara in Japan. Sweden is the land of the Vikings, and when the Vikings converted to Christianity in the late Viking era, they moved from a Viking town called Birka and built this town.
Oh, by the way, I visited Birka! What a wonderful town of the Vikings!
What can we see in Sigtuna?
It takes about one hour to get to Sigtuna from Stockholm city center by tram. From the tram, change to a bus to get to Sigtuna, and as soon as you arrive at the bus stop, you will see this beautiful church with stained glass windows called the Maria Church.
The history of the Swedes' conversion to Christianity can be seen in the city, along with the remains of the Viking era.

Sweden seems to have converted to Christianity much later than other European countries. The church ruins are located near the Church of Mary. You can enter the church ruins. It is very interesting to note that the stones used in the church are runic monuments made by the Vikings. It seems that there was a time when the Swedes converted to Christianity and their past beliefs were considered pagan and worthless.

We came to Sigtuna to see this view from the hill!
One of the reasons to come to Sigtuna is the view from this hill. Every year I think the view from this hill in autumn is really beautiful, with the fallen autumn leaves on the ground and the contrast between the gray autumn sky with light clouds and the blue of the lake.

Once you see the view from the hill, the next stop is this café. In Sweden, there is a culture of drinking ☕coffee and eating sweets called FIKA, which I think is similar to Hong Kong's dim sum culture. I enjoy drinking coffee with friends and colleagues and chit chatting to relax and unwind. One of the reasons I like Sweden so much is the Fika culture.
Yay! Another Runestone!
I have been to Sigtuna at least 5 times now, but this was the first time I saw this runestone monument up close. I knew it was here, but it was located near the site of a private house, and it was not easy to enter. Today, the main gate was open and I was able to take a picture. I would like to write more about this monument.
We took a walk along with a lake
There is a restaurant floating on the lake, but it is closed every time I go to Sigtuna. I always hope to visit this restaurant someday. I will definitely make a reservation and go to Sigtuna to eat at this restaurant. We took a walk along the lake and it was really nice.
We just happened to enter an art gallery! And, guess what? I purchased one artwork by Marcus Møller 😄

Is this what you call a once-in-a-lifetime encounter (一期一会）? I happened to have a solo exhibition at an art gallery. I was to go there one hour before its closing. I decided to purchase the work of this artist because I liked his work so much. Now I have it at home. I love it.
There are towns that you can go to again and again and never get tired of discovering new things, and there are towns that you will want to go back to again and again. Sigtuna is such a town for me. If you have a chance to come to Stockholm, why don't you extend your visit to Sigtuna?
お気に入りの町 、シグツゥーナ
スウェーデンで生活が数年になり、わたしの中でのお気に入りの町と言うのが出来てきました。 母や友達が来た時に一緒に遊びに来たいなと思う町です。
そのお気に入りの町の名前は「シグツゥーナ」と言います。シグツゥーナはとても歴史のある町で、日本で例えるなら奈良のような町だと思っています。 スウェーデンと言えばヴァイキングの国なのですが、そのヴァイキング時代の後期にヴァイキングたちがキリスト教へ改宗する時にビルカ（Birka）と言うヴァイキングの町から移動して作り上げた町になります。
ストックホルム市内からシグツゥーナへは市電に乗ると大体、１時間ぐらいで行くことが出来ます。 市電からバスに乗り換えて、シグツゥーナ市内に行くのですが、バス停に着くとすぐに目に入るのがこのマリア教会と言うステンドグラスの美しい教会です。
スウェーデンは欧州の中ででもかなり他の諸国に比べて遅い時期にキリスト教へ改宗したようです。 この教会跡はマリア教会のすぐ近くにあります。 教会跡の中にも入れます。 とても興味深いのが、この教会に使用されている石にヴァイキングが作ったルーン石碑が使用されているということです。 スウェーデン人の中で、キリスト教へ改宗したことで過去の信仰は異教とみなされ価値のない物とされた時代があったようです。
シグツゥーナに来る理由の１つに、この丘からみるこの景色があります。この丘から見る秋の景色は本当にきれいで、地面には高揚した落ち葉が拡がり、薄雲が拡がった秋の灰色の空と湖の青とのコントラストがとても綺麗と毎年思います。
シグツゥーナにはもう５回以上来ているのですが、このルーン石碑を近くで見るのは初めてでした。ここにあることは知っていたのですが、如何せん民家の敷地の近くにあって、なかなか入れないところにあります。今日は正門があいていて、写真だけとることが出来ました。この石碑に関してはまた別途詳しく書きたいと思っています。
湖に浮くような形のレストランがあるのですが、シグツゥーナに行くたびにしまっています。。。このレストランにはいつか行きたいといつも思っています。今度は必ず予約をしてこのレストランで食べるためにシグツゥーナに行きたいと思います。湖に沿って散歩をしたのですが、本当に気持ちがよかったです。
一期一会とはこう言うことを言うのでしょうか。 偶然、アートギャラリーで個展を開いていました。 その閉店１時間前に行くことになりました。 こういった偶然の出会いってとても大切にしたいと思い、そしてこのアーティストの作品をとても気に入り購入することにしました。 今では家で飾っています。 大好きになりました。
何度行っても新しい発見があって、何度行っても飽きず、何度行ってもまた行きたくなる町があります。 シグツゥーナと言う町はわたしにとってそのような町です。 もしみなさんストックホルムに来る機会があったらシグツゥーナに足を延ばしてみてはどうでしょうか？
