Out on a beach ride horse trail. This secluded beach makes for an amazing experience. We went out with the kids on a slow ride. But some experienced riders and I broke away for a short gallop, getting the adrenalin pumping. I had not been horse riding for almost 12 years so was quite a treat to get out there.

Reminded me of a fond memory from many moons ago. We were a group of four young energetic varsity friends who bought a retired race horse together. We used to spend most of our days out at the stables in a place called Philippi in Cape Town, where we would be out riding and exercising him for as long as he wanted.

His name was Hamlet and he was a beautiful tan brown gentle spirit, who could run like the wind when you wanted him to. We eventually had to sell him as it had become to costly for us to maintain him. It was a sad day indeed. But we made sure he went to a good home, where he would be taken care of and exercised regularly and live a long happy life.

The open stretch of beach makes for the perfect place to let the horses stretch their legs a bit. Also giving the somewhat experienced riders some unbridled excitement at the same time.

Finding some extra special seashells. A friend of mine loves the green ones. They seem to be rare. I took the kiddies out on a hunt and found some interesting shells with an array of shapes colours and designs.

Also found tons of oyster shells and even some live ones. The locals come out to collect and take home to eat. I was not sure I wanted to go that far though, was not 100% sure they were serious or pulling our leg about actually having them for dinner. Lol. Maybe next time I go I will make more of an effort to confirm this, even though I am not a huge fan of oysters, I do indulge every now and then.

Also ended up explaining to the kids how oysters get a tiny stone or sand particle stuck inside its shell and over a long period of time they mange to form a pearl from something that essentially was an irritation for the poor oyster. After telling that story they insisted on going pearl hunting and we spent the better part of the afternoon hunting for oysters. Taking hours trying to pry them open in the hope of finding a pearl. We unfortunately were not successful in our adventurous quest. Maybe next time.

Tons of fun for everyone. Beach rides and seashell treasures in Jeffrey's Bay. Eastern Cape South Africa. It is a beautiful peaceful tiny town that is usually fairly quiet, but comes to life in peak season with the influx of visitors. It is indeed one of South Africa's little gems. The people are friendly, the weather is perfect, and the restaurants offer some of the best cuisine in the country.

If you find yourself on the east coast of South Africa and you love quite but exciting little towns with character and plenty of relaxing activities to entertain, make sure you set aside a few days to spend in this beautiful place.

*Happy Thursday everyone. Find the beauty around you.*
