Skyscanner is an online travel agent based in Edinburgh Scotland. Skyscanner has been around since 2004 and has a significant number of users with over 100 million users each month.I’ve personally been using them for years and have enjoyed the booking experience it was simple and easy to use.Skyscanner is a metasearch engine that compares and connects you to their partner’s websites from where you will be making your flight, hotel or car rental reservation.

Here we are going to go break down what Skyscanner offers and where to discuss in detail what are the right and what are they doing wrong.

What’s great about SkyScanner is you can plan your whole trip on their website your flight tickets, hotel reservation and renting a car. Their website is very fast intuitive and is very easy to use, It’s so beginner-friendly that even my grandma learned how to book on her own last week.

1- Flights

The more airlines to travel from the more option is what I always say because not only will prices be compared between a dozen airlines but with almost any airlines that are operating the flight you wish to travel to.

Plus you get to experience some of the lesser know airlines that are more locally known and experience how it is when traveling with these airlines.

Who would say No to local experience?

Isn’t that the point of a vacation to experience the lesser-known?

Maybe they have something that the big players do not have who knows?

Maybe these smaller local airlines have something to offer that the others don’t?

2- Hotels

SkyScanner has an abundance of hotels at their disposal from where you can choose so you know you are having a lot of options to choose from when booking through their search engine.

You will be getting the best prices from either booking,trip.com or hotels as well as Expedia and others are reputable brands and industry-leading companies that offer great prices and customer service.

3- Car Rental

As for Car Rental’s they have some of the huge players such as Budget, Europcar, Enterprise, Sixt, Hertz, and Avis.

Its really easy to use and book your ride your car keys are waiting for you.

4- Airport Transfers

Skyscanner offers Airport transfer to and from the airport at affordable prices, reliable companies that can take you to your destination at ease.

This is helpful to avoid any long waits at the airport and not to mention the cost could be higher if you book it at the airport.

Plus this will help you be at ease if you pre-book to know your trip is going according to your plan by taking an airport transfer.

You can most certainly just pick a cab but the wait and possible higher fare can be worth considering.

I don’t like waiting is -what I’m trying to say here 🙂

5- Price Alert

This is my favorite feature, the price alert feature helps you make an informed decision when booking your reservation.

The price alert feature sends you an email whenever the price of a particular journey goes there down.

This helps you book at the lowest price available.

  1. You just need to sign up to the website through an email & password.
  2. Log in to your account
  3. Select your destinations or journey on the main menu
  4. Once your redirected to a new page with the offers shown scroll down a bit and you will find the price alert button the middle

You will then receive flight price alert emails from SkyScanner

6- Hotel Discounts

Another great offer By SkyScanner is there Hotel discount offer, what does that mean?

It’s Simple.

If you booked your flight tickets through SkyScanner you get a discount on your hotel booking if you book your hotel reservation through their SkyScanner.

You have to look for the fly stay safe icon when you reserve in your room, otherwise, you will not be eligible for a discount.

The below icon is the flight stay safe icon that will be displayed next to your hotel once your searching.

Look for it once booking you’re reserving your hotel to get the discount.

7- Travel Agency Rating

One of my favorite features by Skyscanner is the travel agency rating feature, This feature breaks down users feedback during the booking process for the last 91 days.

  2. Refund policy
  3. Customer service
  4. Ease of booking
  5. Miscellaneous
  1. Price accuracy represents how accurate prices were when your making the reservation from the third party website and also if the site has frequent price changes.
  1. Refund policy represents how good their refund policy is and whether they have a refund policy or partial refund policy by the third party.
  1. Customer service represents how good customer service is the ease of reach to customer support and how good staff were on handling the issue
  2. Ease of booking shows how easy and simple it is to book the on the third party’s website and how intuitive their site is.
  1. Miscellaneous are any other issues that customers were facing from the booking time to the end of their trip with the third party website.

8- Greener Flights

If you’re an advocate for a better environment then you will enjoy this feature, Greener Flights shows you the percentage less of which carbon is emitted by the plane at the time of booking.

This will help you choose a flight that is less harmful to the environment than the flights that are harmful to the environment.

This is a great feature for those who care about the environment and helps customers be knowledgeable of flights that do emit more cO2 than others.

9- Map Feature

The Map feature of SkyScanner displays the entirety cities of where you can pick and choose a place close to you or look at all the cities near you to visit them and the feature displays the ticket prices for these cities

It gives you a broad view of all the cities close by so you can pick a destination to visit and travel to.

So far SkyScanner has been doing very well in terms of giving a lot of options to its customers and a lot of features that most online travel agencies do not have.

 10- Negative feedback

Here we are going to discuss some of the problems and critiques that customers have when they have made their reservation on SkyScanner.

Customers have been reporting price inaccuracy of the website and that they have seen a lot of times price does not match once they have been redirected to the travel agencies website from where they are going to book from.

This can result in a bad experience for the customers.

Although the website makes it clear that prices do fluctuate they have to take extra measures to update prices as soon as the travel agent price changes.
