Hi Steemians! Hope you're having a great weekend and Easter holidays!

Today I want to write about another temple in Khon Kaen, E-San that impressed me a lot. 2 weeks ago I posted about Wat Thung Setthi which was a highlight of my E-San trip. For those of you who like to visit some off the beaten path places in Thailand, Khon Kaen is really a must-visit.

Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon is the name of the large nine story Stupa in the middle of the temple. You can enter each story and see countless Buddha images but also learn about the E-San culture and the history of Khon Kaen. Also it is said that it contains relics of the Buddha.

Not to miss is definitely the 9th story with a great panoramic view of Khon Kaen Town and its surroundings.

Not only the large main Stupa but also the whole temple complex is very beautiful. Especially the elephant statues are a popular photo motif. You can walk around the Stupa and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the temple. Maybe you will also meet some friendly monks or novices like I did :)

How to get to the Wat Nong Wang?

The temple is located a few minutes outside the city center of Khon Kaen, more exactly on Glang Mueang Road (Thanon Glang Mueang, ถนนกลางเมือง) near the Bueng Kaen Nakhon lake.

You can either take a taxi from anywhere in Khon Kaen city, just make sure they use the meter. Every taxi driver in and around Khon Kaen will know this place as it is the landmark of the city.

The cheapest option, however, would be using the Songthaew, the local "taxi". Unfortunately, I don't remember which Songthaew is going to Wat Nong Wang but you can just try to ask the drivers. Most likely they will not speak English but they will understand Wat Nong Wang at least ;)
