🇫🇷 Je me lance dans le récit de quelques escales. Je ne vais pas les faire dans l'ordre chronologique, juste par envie des histoires pour dépoussiérer quelques vieux souvenirs.

Avec les îles Christmas, les Cocos Keeling Islands font parties de mes deux seules entrées sur le territoire Australien. Jamais sur la grande terre Australienne, toujours en périphérie insulaire. Et sur les îles, la société évolue toujours un peu différemment. En France nous connaissons bien cela avec nos nombreux DOM-TOM. Si administrativement La France donne la même représentation nationale (théoriquement...!), côté culturelle tout y est bien différent, et tant mieux. Aux Cocos Keeling c'est un peu la même chose. Certes c'est Australien, mais en y regardant de plus près la moitié de l'île est habitée par des habitants originaires d'Australie, et l'autre moitié par des habitants originaires d'Asie. Curieusement les deux populations ne se mélangent guère et occupent des parties différentes de l'archipel. Au total seulement quelques centaines d'habitants se partagent l'archipel, autant dire que ma seule présence a une influence sur le statistiques de l'archipel !!

🇬🇧 I’m embarking on the story of a few stopovers. I won’t do them in order, just out of desire and to dust off some old memories.

With the Christmas Islands, the Cocos Keeling Islands are part of my only two entries on the Australian territory. Never on Australian mainland, always on the island periphery. And on the islands, society always evolves a little differently. In France we know this well with our numerous DOM-TOM. If administratively France gives the same national representation (theoretically...!), on the cultural side everything is very different, and so much the better. Aux Cocos Keeling is a bit the same thing. Certainly it is Australian, but looking more closely half of the island is inhabited by inhabitants from Australia, and the other half by inhabitants from Asia. Curiously, the two populations hardly mix and occupy different parts of the archipelago. In total, only a few hundred inhabitants share the archipelago, so to say that my mere presence has an influence on the statistics of the archipelago!!

🇫🇷 A ce sujet, ma présence commence une fois n'est pas coutume par une arivée de nuit... Cela fait cinq jours que je navigue depuis Christmas Island (une autre dépendance Australienne), et je n'ai pas la patience de faire ce que je devrais faire si j'atais raisonnable, attendre que le soleil se lève. Il est 22h00, j'ai envie de jeter l'ancre et de dormir à peu près au calme. Le problème est qu'ici les fonds remontent très vite et le passage pour aller dans la zone de mouillage nécessite une bonne visibilité. Je me fis donc à mes quelques cartes marines et trouve un fond abordable à l'entrée de la zone critique. Cela ira bien pour cette nuit, on verra demain pour s'avancer davantage.

🇬🇧 In this regard, my presence begins once is not customary by a night arivée... I have been sailing for five days from Christmas Island (another Australian outbuilding), and I don’t have the patience to do what I should do if it’s reasonable, wait for the sun to rise. It is 10:00 PM, I want to drop anchor and sleep more or less quietly. The problem is that here the funds rise very quickly and the passage to go into the mooring area requires good visibility. So I made up my few nautical charts and found an affordable background at the entrance of the critical zone. It will be fine for tonight, we’ll see tomorrow to move forward further.

🇫🇷 Le lendemain les couleurs me sautent au visage (pour garder un langage correct!). J'en prends plein les yeux. L'endroit est tout simplement superbe. Un chapelet d'île entourent un zone qui s'assèche par marée basse et laisse tout un panaché de couleur varier durant les marées. Le sable est d'un blanc immaculé, des pisicines naturelles s'éparpillent par dizaines, je ne suis jamais llé en Polynésie, mais la carte postale qui s'offre à mes yeux y ressemble grandement. Je conduis enfin Aurora au mouillage sécurisé de l'archipel. Un devant de plage superbe, une eau transparente, et un colonies de petits requins pointe noire qui encerclent le bateau à peine l'ancre posée. Apparemment ils ont compris d'où vient la nourriture facile...! Je suis seul au mouillage, j'ai une île pour moi, mais nous sommes en Australie et je vois rapidement arriver un jetski monté par un officiel. Un petit blabla administratif plus tard l'officiel s'en va et je peux enfin aller profiter de Direction Island, seul et heureux !

🇬🇧 The next day, the colors jump up in my face (to keep a correct language!). I take it full eyes. The place is simply superb. A string of islands surrounds an area that dries up during low tide and leaves a whole range of colors varying during the tides. The sand is pristine white, natural pisycines are scattered by the dozens, I have never been to Polynesia, but the postcard that appears in my eyes greatly resembles it. I finally lead Aurora to the secure anchorage of the archipelago. A superb beach front, transparent water, and colonies of small black tip sharks that encircle the boat just after anchoring. Apparently they understood where the easy food comes from...! I am alone at anchor, I have an island to myself, but we are in Australia and I quickly see a jetski ridden by an official arriving. A little administrative blabla later the official leaves and I can finally go enjoy Direction Island, alone and happy!

🇫🇷 Je suis souvent le premier à dire que partager les choses c'est tout de même mieux que de rester tout le temps seul, mais dans ce cas précis, je dois dire que découvrir un endroit pareil seul, ça donne encore plus d'émerveillement dans le voyage. De toute façon je n'ai pas le choix, donc tant mieux si cela m'émerveille davantage!!! Je passe plus de deux semaines ici, à plonger avec les raies Manta, les requins, les dauphins viendront plusieurs fois au mouillage et m'accepteront avec eux, je visite l'île par marée basse, profite d'une Manta prisonnière de la marée dans une piscine naturelle, me rend parfois au village pour dire un bonjour rapide et visite chaque îlot déserts les uns après les autres. Les Cocos Keeling resteront certainement l'une des plus belles escales qui m'a été données de faire durant mes voyages en mer.

🇬🇧 I am often the first to say that sharing things is still better than staying alone all the time, but in this case, I must say that discovering a place like this alone gives even more wonder in the journey. Anyway, I have no choice, so good if it amazes me more!!! I spend more than two weeks here, diving with Manta rays, sharks, dolphins will come several times to the anchorage and accept me with them, I visit the island at low tide, enjoy a Manta trapped in a natural pool, sometimes goes to the village to say a quick hello and visits each deserted islet one after another. The Cocos Keeling will certainly remain one of the most beautiful stopovers that I have ever had during my sea trips.
