🇬🇧 What are you looking at ?

Here is a scorpion fish. The master of mimicry, at least that’s what he believes! It has the ability to adapt its skin surface to the relief, somewhat to the color, but not as much as an octopus. Let’s say that it naturally looks like some rock scenery. He is so convinced of being the king of mimicry that even when he has a photographer 30 cm away, he remains motionless and does not run away!! Be careful, this attitude, closer to immobility than mimicry, makes it dangerous. Because even if a foot or a hand goes so far as to lean on it by mistake, it won’t move and your foot will delicately sink on its dorsal spine well served in venom... And from there you have a problem...!

🇬🇧 Post Production

🇬🇧 To bring out the lighting on the eye, I use a snoot at the end of my flash. That is, a cone that focuses the light from the flash. I aim at the spot where I want it and I trigger my photo. You just have to aim carefully! The dark aspect all around is created during shooting by increasing the speed and aperture, and in post-production by creating a background mask and darkening it by playing with exposure or curves. For this, I am working on a French software called Photolab DXO.

🇬🇧 What are you looking at?

It’s a Gobie. A small fish looking for small cavities to protect itself and only going out to look for food. He’s an observer! His big eyes are watching the way out of his hiding place, he almost looks clever!

🇬🇧 Post Production

Technically this photo is taken in the same way as the previous one. The snoot sees the right place to send the flash light, and luck does the rest! Post production is used to darken the background even more and bring out the light on the subject. For this, I am working on a French software called Photolab DXO.
