Portrush is one of those special places where every visit feels like a mini-adventure. With a mix of attractions that can both thrill and relax you, it’s no wonder my family and I keep coming back. If you haven't been, you're missing out—let me tell you about our recent trip!
After work yesterday, we decided to head to Portrush, and it was extra special because Mum and Auntie Rona joined us. The drive is about 70 miles, so we took the van to make sure everyone was comfortable.
As we pulled into Portrush, the excitement built up. This Northern Ireland gem is a holiday favorite for a reason—between the amusements, restaurants, beaches, and famous sights like the Giant’s Causeway, there’s something for everyone. The weather was on our side, too, with the sun shining brightly, which was a real treat since rain was forecasted for the coming days.
This was only my second visit, and the last time we were here, Tia wasn’t even a year old, so I hardly remembered the place. Given everything that’s happened since then (hello, Covid!), I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the buzz of the crowd quickly reminded me why Portrush is so beloved.
Finding a parking spot was a bit of a challenge, but we eventually found a great one right in the thick of things. The first order of business? Ice cream, of course! Tia insisted—it was just too warm to do anything else first.
After a bit, Auntie Rona was ready for a break. It’s moments like these that remind you to make the most of your energy while you’re young because as much as the spirit is willing, the body sometimes needs a rest. We found a spot for her to relax, and then we were off to the amusement park.
What was once known as 'Barry’s' has now been rebranded as 'Curry’s Fun Park.' The place is still packed with rides, food stalls, arcades, and games. We bought a package of tokens to get the most out of our day, and then everyone split off to enjoy their favorite activities.
Tia was eager to start with the rides, and we had a blast. From the thrill of the Ghost Train to the joy of watching her on the Helter Skelter, it was non-stop fun. Even when we needed a break to eat, the adventure didn’t slow down—though finding a restaurant that didn’t require a booking was a bit tricky, we settled on Domino’s for a pizza feast.
As night fell, the amusement park took on a whole new charm, with lights twinkling and the air filled with laughter. We ended our day with a ride on the Tower Eye, which offered a breathtaking view of the entire area.
By the time we headed home, everyone was exhausted but happy. We didn’t just have a fun day—we made memories that will last until the next time we visit, and believe me, that can’t come soon enough.
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read!
I hope you enjoyed Portrush.
