...also known as Sheytan Dere, coming from Turkish. The paintbrush of Mother Nature was very brave, rich and creative here. People had added some myths and stories once it was discovered as it really stands out as you will see by my photos.

I believe first stories had been told by the Thracian people who had lived here long time ago.

We traveled to the Devil's Canyon last spring, it was my second time visiting this special place, I am sure everyone could feel the magic and the extraordinary energy emitted.

Getting there isn't easy at all. The nearby village, called Rabovo is well hidden in Rhodope mountain by the green hills and the roads are so curvy that one should be ready to drive more than hour for those 30-40 mountain kilometres.

While you are approaching it, the canyon doesn't seem very impressive as this is a common fresh green view from the beautiful mountain:

The powerful water of Arda river is used at the nearby water power plant that could be seen in the left-hand side of the photo.

The charm of the location reveals once you get closer:

When descending to the river, the very few sounds coming from the nearby settlement vanish completely and one feels really weird yet calm.

The rocks, formed by the freezing lava of a volcano that sleeps for millenniums.

The unusually low water level has painted a beautiful black layer underlining the beauty of the erosive wells.

Large bouquets of blooming wild thyme grow around and fill the air with amazing aroma...

Unfortunately some people are irresponsible and do not think what our legacy will be...

And when even closer to the river... the colors are absolutely spectacular...

Yes, the place is majestic and extraordinary...
