Húsavík is a small cute or I should probably use the adjective nice town in the Northern part of Iceland. It was a planned destination of ours from a photographic travel.

From what I have seen traveling that fairy-tale island country, I could tell that its Northern and Western parts are not the most popular tourist destinations. The South has the highest density of amazing sites with plenty to see. Still, the rest of the island has a lot of charm and I have to say, coziness!

Let me first show you one amazing place I have photographed near the town and then I will rewind to the beginning of the Húsavík experience :)

Do you wonder what this is?

If you do, stay with me and I'm going to share with you my observations, memories and feelings from the time I was inside and around that lovely town.

The day we approached Húsavík, was a day with heavy clouds, winds and some rains. Not the best day to enjoy the scenery Iceland, you may say.

I'd say, though, that a cloudless sunny day is a dull one, LOL! :)

Check out the views along the road from the evening:

That smoke is actually steam from the geysers around. As you may know, there is plenty of volcanic activity in Iceland.

Driving and getting closer to the town, I got under the impression I see a sunset through the heavy clouds, as it was about time for that colorful event of the day.

I was mistaken. It wasn't the sunset.

That is not fog either. Again, that's steam, sourcing by the multiple geysers in the area around.

All that golden light was coming from many greenhouses scattered around!

An interesting fact is that Iceland produces for its own needs plenty of fruits and vegetables. Despite its harsh climate of an island in the Northern parts of the Atlantic Ocean, all the local fruits and vegetables I tried were very delicious!

Believe me or not, but I saw in some of those greenhouses pineapple and banana trees, full of fruits. I tried tomatoes, cucumbers, all very sweet! It appears that the heat and humidity coming from the geysers and the artificial light from there warm light lamps are enough! Moreover, the price of all the things I tried was quite affordable.

We spend the night in a fancy 3-stars hotel and the morning greeted us with moody and cold rainy morning:

After a quick but healthy breakfast we checked out from the hotel and spent the rest of the planned time here outdoors.

There is indeed plenty to see around.

No need to use navigation. Just follow the signs under the tail of the whale, LOL :)

The church caught my attention with its beauty and the wooden construction and elements used. How does it withstand the harsh weather during the winters??? As appeared later, I have made many photos of it :)

DDH_9693.jpg

I could say the local people are open. Just few steps away from one of the major streets in the town I saw this:

The chair, the BBQ :) Cozy, isn't it?

DDH_9695.jpg

One thing I always admire about people from the North is the way they decorate their windows. I can always find something quite artistic and unique.

DDH_9694.jpg

More people around us, also enjoying the day as now the rain finally stopped. Not that it was keeping us indoors :)

Have you noticed how always after the rain, the greens are even greener. So fresh too!

Here are some more details and angles from the local church. Trust me, I am intentionally not sharing all of them, as I took so many :)

It is so beautiful and charming in a way, isn't it?

...and that small boat above, that shows the World directions, or the Cardinal Points. How nice!

DDH_9704.jpg

Such a tempting bench in the park, but the clock is ticking and it is time to go to the port and take a walk along the shore...

DDH_9702.jpg

That's indeed an interesting way to see the whales. My bet, a boat with electric engine. Unfortunately the service was closed that day.

The good side of that was that there was more time to walk around and browse the beautiful area.

I am always attracted by the ports. Lately I found out for myself that I always find time to visit the ports of cities that have one! I don't know why is that as I generally do not live by the sea. But probably that's a part of the answer :)

I find all ports fascinating in their own unique way! I doubt there are two equal ports anywhere in the world :)

Now imagine sailing in such a small boat next to the tail of a whale!

DDH_9709.jpg

Empty cafeteria with drying flowers in tin cans, round staircase in front of a cool graffiti, rusty chains and other unknown equipment, brand new riggings, making those constant sounds and noises... How could all that NOT be magical :)

Moreover, those absolutely different views towards the town, with all the boats and stuff in the foreground.

Hm... the church again. Don't laugh at me, please :D

Just by driving a couple of minutes away from town gives quite different and serene perspectives.

All that magical beauty of Iceland!
