Ah, the outdoors, how I love it and miss it. I live in the city, but relish the chance when it arises to be out under an open sky. I guess having grown up on a farm plays a role in that, and then years in Scouting.

I've adventured mostly along the East Coast of my homeland, Australia, through mangrove and tee-tree swamps, dry eucalyptus forest then into the hinterland where the last of the once great rainforests still cling in pockets. I've also spent my share of time on shore and in the waves working up a decent sunburn.

I also did my share of rock climbing around the volcanic crags of SE Queensland.

My only trip thus far to the desert was a 3000 km round road trip from Sydney out to the Flinders Ranges for the 2002 total solar eclipse.

Most of all of this all happened before digital cameras were decent and I never made the time to make good scans of the photos or negatives, which are now long gone.

Since 2003 I have spent a good deal of time half a world away in Europe, where it is much harder to find truly wild spaces. The best I've seen so far is the Alps. I make an effort every year to hike with fellow Hiver @gric as the mountains are on his doorstep.

Should this crazy virus lockdown come to an end, there might be some more mountain adventures this Summer.
Hidden away amongst many of the crags and forests are castle ruins which add to the adventure when exploring.
