Nature's Jacuzzis!
Just after we had visited the Tallest waterfall in Trinidad, we headed to the Jacuzzi Pools in the same area but much lower downstream. It is called as such because there are a few pools that the waterfall there flows into that are the size and shape of cool natural jacuzzis that you can sit and lounge in and enjoy the clean crisp flow of water as it hits your back. It is our favorite place to visit to bathe and enjoy nature!
Continuing from the last blog at Maracas waterfall, we were walking back on the same trail and were looking for the entrance of the other trail that takes you to the jacuzzi pools. It is literally on the same trail to the maracas waterfall but you have to take a right at a fork.
I could not for the life of me remember where the fork was though and on the way back, I tried all of the paths that were on the way back. As you can see from the photos above, I knee deep in jungle thinking the entrance was closer to the falls that it really was!
Luckily a friendly couple who were also on the way back from the falls were also headed to the jacuzzi pools and allowed us to follow the, to the fork that takes you to our destination! I facepalmed so hard when we got to the actual entrance to the jacuzzi trail as it was so close to the beginning and we wasted a lot of time trying to find it! Not to mention that I should have remembered!
Feeling a lot better that we were now on the right track, we walked a lot more confidently as I could tell my way from here on and my memory of this side of the trail came back to me.
We were still a bit tired after walking all the way to the Maracas falls but we could not wait to sink in to one of the pools and just relax to melt the heat of walking the trail away. People always save the jacuzzi pools to bathe in last after walking all the way to the maracas falls as we have done here.
The trail itself was lush and breathtaking with lots of beautiful untouched tropical jungle. The smells, sounds and fresh crisp air almost seemed to invigorate you as we walked. I could not get enough but the fatigue was getting to me and the allure of the pools seemed more enticing.
We passed by a little spring in the side of the trail that came from a slab of huge rock and its sounds and smell was so tranquil. I took a sip and we quickly moved on as time was running out!
We were close when I heard the sounds of a crashing waterfall that you can see on the right of the photo above. It was quite magical and scenic to see such a waterfall right on the side of the trail! The rocks and the roots grown upon them were quite difficult to get over but this was the last obstacle before the tranquil pools.
Finally, the bush and jungle gave way to the cascading and tranquil Jacuzzi pools! The photo above shows the first sight we saw as we came upon them. The whole thing was just made of hard bedrock.
To the right was an immediate and steep drop off that the higher up jacuzzi pools flowed into. This resulted in another large waterfall lower downstream as well. The sound was loud and it was quite the leap if you were to jump off.
This is the view just as you are standing on the ledge with just more rocky bedrock down below. The view and the sounds were quite amazing and I was quite in awe of nature! You can't visit these places and not leave feeling a sense of tranquility and satisfaction!
Here is a wide angled view of all of the pools, the main ones being higher up stream where you can see the people above. Just this site alone with that large mossy log above made me want to immediately dive right in!
They seemed to be having the time of their lives just bathing, lounging and taking in the water as it cascaded from higher up bringing pure crisp and cool refreshing waters.
We decided to bathe in each jacuzzi pool as we moved upwards towards the largest pool with the waterfall at the top. The little waterfalls in between were so amazing and we actually got to sit under it and let the water fall upon our backs!
We finally got to the top most largest pool and the waters were so clear. There was a small opening in the thick canopies of trees overhead that let the sun shine directly above the largest pool almost like a heavenly bathing tub!
As soon as we set our bags down a hiking club came up and we were no longer alone! They put their stuff down as well and prepared just as we were doing to get ready to jump in! They seemed to have a female guide at the lead and I decided to lay back a bit and observe what they were doing.
They gathered at the shallow edge of the main large pool getting ready to jump into the deep end. The guys were quite scared and timid and I heard one of them lamenting that it is quite dangerous to bathe in without life jackets! He was most definitely referring to the recent deaths in the country where people died in pools like these as they just sink without coming back up as it is not salt water.
The guide was so elegant, well skilled and poised as she showed the guys in the group how to swim across and climb the rocks. It was so hilarious that I stood there for so long just watching this female guide make the guys look like fumbling babies, slipping on the rocks and being so afraid to even swim! She even had to help them physically as you can see above!
They finally made it up to the large waterfall area and were still fumbling about to get a good sitting to enjoy the waters! By this time I had already jumped in and was enjoying the waters and the cool temperatures as it soothed the aching muscles from such a long hike!
It was so surreal and breathtaking bathing here! I just laid back and floated in the waters as they blocked all the sounds and just stared up at the lush forest ceiling and the skies above. This is my favorite thing to do and it feels amazing!
All in all, the Jacuzzi pools were like the dessert after the main course of the Maracas Waterfalls (previous post). It was so awesome to bathe in the cool soothing waters and relax the bones and muscles after such a long hike. The best thing was that it was quite close to the start of the trail and so when we were done, it was just a quick walk back the car! Thanks a lot for coming along, Cheers!
