Water Filled Fun For Days!

Today we explore the adventure of a lifetime at the Five Islands water park in Chaguaramas here in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a must visit for any one visiting our country and is the largest and most elaborate water and amusement park squeezed into one! You can't do all of it in one day but we tried our best with the water park and went on as many slides as we could before we ran out of time!

The whole family was there and we all gathered in the carpark to allow everyone to arrive so we could enter and start the rides together. The admissions building was quite large as there was an arcade in there as well with jungle gyms, trampolines and other fun things to do!

IMG_6897.jpg

Entering, you would not assume at all that this was the entrance to a waterpark at all. One could spend all day in here alone and be satisfied! We were immediately greeted with famous references to famous places and animals in Trinidad which would be the running theme for the whole park!

You can see lots of local animal made into huge decorations as we bought our tickets. In the first image, you can see large local birds and in the second one, you can see a large howler monkey amidst the games near a tree! We came for the water water park so we walked straight across the building to the other side which was the entrance to the amusement park itself.

We were here quite early on a weekday so no one was there as yet. The first thing we saw when we exited the the admissions building was the dragon fly ride. I immediately had flashbacks to the last time we were here and went on that. It was the feeling you get when you are about to die!

IMG_6892.jpg

There were also the go cart racing which was quite fun last time as well! I took a quick shot of the sign and moved on as we made a beeline through the initial park for the water park itself.

Next up as we walked was the paintball gun arena! We had not yet tried this out as yet but now was neither the time nor the place as they were doing repairs on the whole thing, same as the last visit as well.

IMG_6802.jpg

Finally, we got the water park area of the theme park! The first thing we saw was the wave surfing attraction which is so hard to get! They give you a surf board upon which you can either stand or lay down upon and surf the waves!

IMG_6800.jpg

There was this little boy who was doing quite a good job surfing the curls and I managed to get it on camera when he suddenly was wiped out! The waves are so forceful, they push you up back the incline no matter how big or small you were!

IMG_6793 Large.jpeg

We headed the the main area where there was the large artificial beach called Gundee Beach. Again, as previously stated, this is a reference to what Trinidadians call the crab's claw here, namely a gundee!

IMG_6808.jpg

There were large canopies for much needed shade and free seating We gathered up all our things and left them there on a beach chair with our slippers. It would be very safe there.

IMG_6794.jpg

There were lifeguards there at the edge of the artificial waves keeping watch just incase anything would have happened in case of an emergency even though the height of the water was not that high!

IMG_6791.jpg

Here is a closer look at the beach and the waves with one of the water slides in the background. We jumped in and it really was just humungous pool with a large wave generator. It definitely was fun nonetheless and was a great primer for the watery fun to be had next up!

IMG_6812.jpg

We promptly exited Gundee Beach and headed straight to the great race water slide. It is, once again, a reference to the annual boat race that is held here where speedboats compete in a large race that starts in Trinidad and ends in Tobago!

IMG_6814.jpg

This one is called the great race as well because, at the top, we all line up together and jump off at a timer and whoever comes first is measured and timed! You'll see what I mean!

IMG_6818.jpg

We just had to pick up one of the those blue body things you see there in the photo on the top right. This meant that we had to enter the scary high tube head first! This was so off putting at first! I would have rathered feet first!

IMG_6820.jpg

You can see how high up we had to climb so you can imagine how fast this thing actually was by the time we went down those tubes! The above shot shows the exit and what it looks like.

IMG_6817.jpg

In this above shot, you can see that there are LED monitors with timers and lane numbers that allowed us to be timed and see who won the great race! This was so cool! I came out a little shaky as the speeds were just heart wrenching and while you were within the tubes it was DARK!

IMG_6822.jpg

We actually did this last to relax the nerves but since the entrance to it was right next to the great race, I'm just going to show you now. This was the lazy river which was quite awesome and fun to sit in and let the stream carry you along. The best thing about it was that it was so long and it stretched along the whole park and you can just take a ride in it to wherever you needed to go!. This area of the lazy river was called Manzanilla Stretch which is a reference to the east coast of Trinidad.

There were awesome water donuts that you can sit on and within to relax. Along the whole way, there were regular intervals of life guards under cool looking umbrellas. There were also a lot of bridges and walkovers that was fun to pass under as well as beautiful vegetation along the way that just added to the whole vibe!

IMG_6827.jpg

Next up we went to the Hurricane terrain, with the pink and blue colors you can see in the photo above. This one by far had the largest accelerations that make you yell out in fright of literally dying that then takes you up an almost 90 degree incline and back down again before spitting you out!

IMG_6861.jpg

The stairway was quite large but it was quite worth it before the end. We just had to pick up our large raft for two and start the trek upwards. Thankfully the line was non existent and we just had to walk up.

IMG_6832.jpg

You can see how the rafts look in the shot above as well as the people waiting their turn!

IMG_6856.jpg
IMG_6858.jpg

Just by looking at the looks of the faces of the people in the raft above as they exit the ride is enough to tell you how much fun yet nerve wracking it is! It keeps you feeling as if you're going to fall off at every moment!

IMG_6836.jpg
IMG_6841.jpg
IMG_6840.jpg

The entrance and exits of these three slides were in the same area and each and every on was amazing yet nerve wracking with out favorite being the hurricane! There are some closeups of the exits of each that can give you an idea of how it might be with all the twists, turns and curls.

IMG_6873.jpg

The next set of slides is what I like the call the dead drop as they tend to drop you so fast and hard at an almost 90 degree angle! Most people tend to want to stay away from these!

IMG_6816.jpg

There are some pretty tame ones on the other side as well for the smaller kids and are quite the thrill but on a more leisurely level.

IMG_6877.jpg

Here is a closeup of the one I like to call the dead drop! Looks harmless from here I know but its the one everyone underestimates and then come out looking like they just had a near death experience.

IMG_6829.jpg

Here is a quick shot of the kiddies area called the Pirates Bay which of course is another reference to a famous bay in Tobago! There was so much to see and do for the kiddies and they seemed to be having lots of fun!

IMG_6901.jpg

After having such a thrilling time on all the water features, we were so tired yet satisfied. It definitely was worth the money even though we did not get to hit all of the rides! As the sun was setting, we headed to a nearby KFC for a much needed dinner before heading home! Thanks a lot for coming along, cheers!
