Beggang is a local language for ember which is used for cooking and/or grilling food. Thus, the word was used to describe how the restaurant cook some of their dishes.
Beggang is located at Burnham Park, integrated within the skating rink area. This is right across the parking area beside athletic bowl.
The interior is much brighter and warmer now since they changes the ceiling decor and placed hanging lamps. It made the place look spacious with the raised and coved ceiling.
They have cookies, brownies and dried fish sold at the counter. There are also cakes available but we did not order any for now.
They have wide range of food selection. Dishes are for sharing up to group of 3 or 4. There are also set meals for groups. They have meat, seafood and vegetables dishes. As what the name of the restaurant suggests, there are grilled food to choose from. Most dishes are Ilocano dishes.
For our vegetable category, we ordered vegetarian sisig. Sisig is a Kapampangan word for snacking on something sour. Sizzling sisig on the other hand refers to dish of pig ears and liver.
Beggang's vegetarian sisig consists of tofu, puso ng saging or banana blossom, bell pepper and tomatoes with leeks, onions, garlic and cooked with soy sauce.
The tofu is crunchy and the overall taste of the dish is sour and sweet.
We also ordered fresh lumpia or spring roll. This is the biggest serving I have come across so far. Good thing we only ordered one because this is enough for two.
Carrots, green beans, potatoes, ubod or heart of palm and garlic are the ingredients of fresh lumpia with a leaf of lettuce. These are swathed in a crepe of cornstarch and eggs and then doused wih sweetened sauce and sprinkled with ground peanuts.
The sauce is too sweet such that I may not be able to finish without the help of my partner.
I like the texture and taste of the lumpia with just a bit of the sauce.
In addition, we also added lechon kawali two cups of white rice and as drinks, we had buko shake.
This is one of the restaurants that offer good food and affordable meals. It tastes delicious and satisfying. Aside from group meals, they also offer ala carte. Nonvegetarians and vegetarians can eat here and enjoy a meal.
There is no wifi and no credit card here.
They are open from 11:00 to 9:00. Sometimes they are open earlier than 11:00. They also do catering service.
