Rengginang is a kind of crisps made from sticky rice.
It is made from black or white sticky rice. Some rengginang makers add food color like red, yellow and green.
Rengginang is a traditional food from Indonesia. It is usually available or easy to get when Iedul Fitri ( Moslem Holiday). The taste is crispy and tasty with little bit salty.
HOW TO COOK RENGGINANG
Raw rengginang is fried. The raw rengginang is made from a half done sticky rice added with special recipes to make the taste. I am not sure how to make it because the makers usually keep the recipes secretly. It is an old recipe from their parents or grandparents.
DRIED UNDER THE SUNLIGHT
After finish processing the half done sticky rice and added with some spices, rengginang then put under the sunlight to make it dry. People use all traditional methode. To form the circle shape they use a tool from bamboo like a bracelet.
DRIED OR FRIED
People can buy dried or fried rengginang. Fried rengginang is more expensive because it is ready to serve. While dried rengginang is usually for a gift because it can last for months in room temperature. The need of rengginang will increase in fasting month Ramadhan of Islamic calender and Syawal when Iedul Fitri.
IS IT HEALTHY?
Yes, rengginang is a healthy food because it does not use preservatives. It only uses food coloring. If you don't want rengginang without food coloring you can choose the plain one or the black one that is made from black sticky rice.
