San Juan, Argentina
For a province with so little tourism promotion, San Juan never ceased to surprise me. When you think about seeing beautiful landscapes you already have your favorite provinces, such as Mendoza or Córdoba, and perhaps you would not have San Juan as one of the first options. But let me tell you friends, there are so many beautiful things to see and do in this place that it deserves to be spread much more nationally. One of the most beautiful landscapes I saw in San Juan is located at the Punta Negra Dam, which with its turquoise waters and dark mountains is capable of delighting any visitor ❤️.
Para ser una provincia con tan poca promoción turística, San Juan no dejaba de sorprenderme a cada rato. Cuando uno piensa en ver paisajes hermosos ya tiene sus provincias preferidas, como Mendoza o Córdoba, y quizás no tendría a San Juan como una de las primeras opciones. Pero déjenme decirles amigos, que en este lugar hay tantas cosas hermosas para ver y hacer que se merece ser difundido mucho más a nivel nacional. Uno de los paisajes más hermosos que ví en San Juan se encuentra en el Dique Punta Negra, que con sus aguas turquesas y montañas oscuras es capaz de deleitar a cualquier visitante ❤️.
What I like the most about here is the well-developed transportation system there. This allows you to save a lot of money in your travel budget because with just a public bus and a small fee you can go to these beautiful places to spend the day. In addition, there is a bus application called Red Tulum where you can check the bus schedules, stops and routes to be able to plan your day perfectly ❤️.
Lo que más me está gustando de acá es el sistema de transporte bien desarrollado que hay. Esto permite ahorrar bastante dinero en tu presupuesto de viaje porque con solo un colectivo público y una pequeña tarifa podes acercarte hasta estos lugares hermosos a pasar el día. Además, hay una aplicación de colectivos llamada Red Tulum en donde se pueden consultar los horarios de los colectivos, paradas y recorridos para poder planificar tu día a la perfección ❤️.
After having visited the beautiful Ullum Dam 20 km from the city center of San Juan, then it was the turn to visit the other large water reservoir that this province has. A little further than the previous one, the Punta Negra Dam is located 30 km from the city, but following the same path that connects both dams, called the Interlagos Route. This trip costs 250 ARS ($0.25) and in an hour and a half you can reach this completely quiet place surrounded by nature ❣️.
Después de haber visitado el hermoso Dique Ullum a 20 km del centro de la ciudad de San Juan, luego fue el turno de visitar el otro gran reservorio de agua que tiene esta provincia. Un poco más lejos que el anterior, el Dique Punta Negra se ubica a 30 km de la ciudad, pero siguiendo por el mismo camino que conecta ambos diques, llamada Ruta Interlagos. Este viaje cuesta 250 ARS ($0.25) y en una hora y media podes llegar hasta este lugar completamente tranquilo y rodeado de naturaleza ❣️.
There are several points around the dam where you can request a bus stop, but it is best to reach the end of the route where you can find two stops with restaurant, bar and bathroom services. Also in this place you can do typical aquatic activities such as rowing a boat, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and sailing. In addition to that, this area has a lifeguard service, so it has a small beach enabled for bathing 😃.
Hay varios puntos alrededor del dique en los cuales podes solicitar la parada del colectivo, pero lo mejor es llegar hasta el final del recorrido en donde se pueden encontrar dos paradores con servicios de restaurante, bar y baños. También en este lugar se pueden realizar las típicas actividades acuáticas como remo en bote, kayak, stand up padle y navegaciones. Además de eso, esta zona cuenta con servicio de guardavidas, por lo que cuenta con una pequeña playa habilitada para bañarse 😃.
No matter how beautiful and turquoise this dam is, the reality is that its waters are icy and deep, so swimming is prohibited in almost its entire length. Although there is always the possibility of entering at your own risk, it is best to avoid this and look for some flat spots where you can get your feet wet and enjoy the waves that reach the shore ❤️.
Por más hermoso y turquesa que sea este dique, la realidad es que sus aguas son heladas y profundas, por lo que nadar está prohibido en casi toda su extensión. Aunque siempre existe la posibilidad de entrar bajo tu propio riesgo, es mejor evitar esto y buscar algunas partes planas en las que te podes mojar los pies y disfrutar de las olas que llegan hasta la orilla ❤️.
In addition to being able to spend the day by the water, this place offers a large number of hills to do some trekking. There are some trails that are well defined but others not so much, so it is always best to consult the routes before embarking on an expedition. We must also consider that in this place there is no internet signal, so the disconnection from everything is total 😅.
Además de poder pasar el día junto al agua, este lugar ofrece una gran cantidad de cerros para poder hacer un poco de trekking. Hay algunos senderos que estan bien delimitados pero otros no tanto, así que lo mejor siempre es consultar los recorridos antes de sumergirse en alguna expedición. También hay que considerar que en este lugar no hay señal de internet, por lo que la desconexión con todo es total 😅.
Since the public transportation system that reaches this place has a frequency of one bus every four hours, my co-workers and I had that time to spend in this place. It was quite hot and at first we cooled off in the water a little, but after a while I was eager to do something else. We consulted with the locals about some trekking that would not take much time and they pointed us to a small summit right in front of where we were 😃.
Como el sistema de transporte público que llega hasta este lugar tiene una frecuencia de un colectivo cada cuatro horas, mis compañeros del trabajo y yo teníamos ese tiempo para pasarlo en este lugar. Hacía bastante calor y al principio nos refrescamos un poco en el agua, pero después de un rato yo ya estaba ansiosa por hacer algo más. Consultamos con los lugareños sobre algún trekking que no lleve mucho tiempo y ellos nos indicaron sobre una pequeña cumbre justo enfrente de donde estábamos 😃.
After eating our lunch, we went with all our energy ready to go up there. What I liked is that to go to the other side of the street there was a system of tunnels that prevented you from crossing paths with cars. The trail we found after that was not entirely marked, but from below we could see the summit easily as it had a small grotto, so we made up our own path 😃.
Después de tomar nuestro almuerzo, fuimos con toda nuestra energía dispuestos a subir hasta ahí. Lo que me gustó es que para ir hasta el otro lado de la calle había un sistema de túneles que te evitaba cruzarte con los autos. El sendero que encontramos después de eso no estaba del todo marcado, pero desde abajo pudimos ver la cumbre fácilmente ya que tenía una pequeña gruta, así que inventamos nuestro propio camino 😃.
This was the day I finally broke out my trekking shoes and they couldn't have been more useful because the terrain was really difficult. This trail was all small sharp and loose stones, so my daily shoes would surely have been ruined. There were also a lot of cacti with thorns, so it was great to have those shoes that they gave me before this trip ❤️.
Este fue el día en el que finalmente estrené mis zapatillas de trekking y no podría haber sido más útiles porque el terreno era verdaderamente difícil. Este sendero era todo de pequeñas piedras filosas y desprendidas, así que seguramente mis zapatillas de uso diario se hubiesen arruinado. También habían muchos cactus con espinas, así que fue genial contar con ese calzado que me regalaron antes de este viaje ❤️.
At first everything went very well with the invented path, but after a while it became quite narrow and close to the ledge. Not only was it because of that, but there was also very strong wind, which forced me to stop and take shelter in a safe place. My companions were braver than me and continued to the grotto, so I just had to settle for seeing it from afar 😅.
Al principio todo iba muy bien con el sendero inventado, pero después de un rato se volvió bastante angosto y cerca de la cornisa. No solo fue por eso, sino que también había viento y muy fuerte, lo que me obligó a detenerme y resguardarme en un lugar seguro. Mis compañeros si que fueron más valientes que yo y continuaron hasta la gruta, así que solo tuve que conformarme con verla desde lejos 😅.
When our journey through the small hill ended, we went down to the parador to finish waiting for our return bus. This place had a small patio where we could shelter from the wind and have a snack with a beautiful view of the lake. The funny thing about all this is that before coming to San Juan, I had planned to take a trip to Potrerillos in Mendoza where there is a landscape very similar to this one, and I ended up seeing it cheaper and very close to where I was already staying ❤️.
Cuando terminó nuestra travesía por el pequeño cerro, bajamos hasta el parador a terminar de esperar nuestro colectivo de regreso. Este lugar tenía un pequeño patio en donde pudimos refugiarnos del viento y de paso merendar algo con una hermosa vista al lago. Lo curioso de todo esto es que antes de venir a San Juan, había planeado hacerme una escapada hasta Potrerillos en Mendoza donde hay un paisaje muy similar a este, y terminé viéndolo más barato y muy cerca de donde ya estaba alojada ❤️.
The day we visited the Punta Negra Dam was one of the most beautiful for me. As I always do, I had not looked for any photos of the place because I wanted to be surprised and discover it on my own, and so it was. Now guests ask me which dam is prettier, Ullum or this one, and my answer is always that they are not comparable. Both offer two totally opposite landscapes but each one has its own beauty. So, in the end my recommendation always ends up being that you have to visit both, so as not to miss either place and to take away the best memories of the province of San Juan ❤️.
El día que visitamos el Dique Punta Negra fue uno de los más lindos para mí. Como siempre hago, no había buscado ninguna foto del lugar porque quería sorprenderme y descubrirlo por mi propia cuenta, y así fue. Ahora los huéspedes me preguntan qué dique es más lindo, si el de Ullum o este, y mi respuesta siempre es que no son comparables. Ambos ofrecen dos paisajes totalmente opuestos pero cada uno tiene su belleza propia. Entonces, al final mi recomendación siempre termina siendo que tienen que visitar ambos, para no perderse ninguno de los dos lugares y para llevarse los mejores recuerdos de la provincia de San Juan ❤️.
