The streets of Quanzhou were congested during the holiday season, so I hastily escaped to Shishi to refresh my mind and body. After poring over several reviews, I chose the Grand Honor Hotel as my first stop — a hotel that boasts contemporary decor with a touch of Minnan and maritime elements, and is reputed to be beyond five stars.
The hotel is located downtown, offering a panoramic view of the charming town of Shishi. I woke up to a sumptuous breakfast bathed in sunlight, relishing the morning breeze and the diverse offerings of the 360-degree revolving restaurant on the top floor. It was truly a delight to the senses.
Apart from the revolving restaurant, there is another popular restaurant at the left side of the hotel lobby, it’s famous for the local cuisine and Cantonese dim sum, creating a lively atmosphere that made waiting in line well worth the effort.
The rooms were spacious, luminous, and adorned with minimalist and chic designs, complemented by plush bedding and a mesmerizing view of the surroundings. The hotel’s amenities were top-notch, except for the slightly delayed hot water supply during peak season.
Shishi may not be as renowned as Quanzhou, but it has its own allure with its picturesque coastline, ancient pagodas, and temples. It’s an ideal place to immerse oneself in Minnan culture and maritime charm.
